Republican Up 6 Points In Iowa Senate Race, Quinnipiac University
Quinnipiac ^

Posted on 09/17/2014 5:15:33 AM PDT by sunmars

Neutralizing the traditional Democratic lead among women voters, Republican State Sen. Joni Ernst leads U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, the Democrat, 50 - 44 percent among likely voters in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin in Iowa, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Ernst leads among men 56 - 39 percent, while Braley leads among women by a smaller 50 - 44 percent margin, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. This survey of likely voters can not be compared with earlier surveys of registered voters.

The Republican also leads 50 - 43 percent among a key political group, independent voters, and 87 - 7 percent among GOP voters, while Braley takes Democrats 90 - 7 percent. While l5 percent of Iowa voters say they might change their mind, 84 percent say their mind is made up.

Their U.S. Senate vote is mainly a vote against President Barack Obama, 28 percent of Iowa likely voters say, while 12 percent say it is a vote mainly for Obama and 58 percent say the president is not much of a factor in their Senate vote.

This race is confusing me. I thought Ernst was favored, then the doom and gloom and now surprise she has a lead. I know Iowa leans Democrat when it comes to national elections, so nothing would surprise me here. I just don’t have a good understanding of the dynamics of this race.

Don’t forget margins of error in these state polls tend to be pretty large. It is really not that surprising to see the polls bounce one way then another when the race is close. Simply put this race is a tossup that could go either way. Of course, that’s now. November is a long way away. Certainly events could change this dynamic.

The Dems have a higher registration here but the incumbent Dem is a total idiot.

If Iowa falls, the senate will fall too, that simple.

Braley leads among women by a smaller 50 - 44 percent margin . . .

IOW, 6% more of them will actually vote for the condescending male misogynist idiot over one of their own as long as he has the coveted "D" after his name.

Once again, the outcome of polls are what they have been designed to do, it depends highly on the wording.

The real proof will be the day AFTER the elections, assuming they have not been “rigged” before hand.

And to think the WaPo turds spent all day writing a story about how Iowa was the canary in the (bad news) coal mine for the GOP.

And boom. The narrative gets ruined. Before 9AM.

This is good news. First good news since I saw our chances for senate seats had been downgraded due to poor campaigns in KS, NC, etc.

An Iowa FREEPer told me that Ernst even being TIED in the polls is a big deal, as the pro-Obama jackal was way way up before the primaries.

It seems the majority of Braley’s ads are just negative against Ernst with no messages about what he is going to do.

Ernst runs negative ads also, but also runs ads telling what she does stand for.

Hopefully Iowans can return to their conservative roots.

Nate Silver is now backtracking a bit on his Republican takeover of the Senate. He thinks that NC and Colorado are going to stay Dem because of the large amount of money that the DNC is funneling into those races.

I really don’t know what to think about all this. Personally, I don’t see how anyone affiliated with Obama can have any chance at winning a race.

But, but, but, just yesterday every pundit was saying the democrats have a 50/50 chance to take the senate ( sarcasm on. )

Go Joni! Having grown up in Iowa, I know having the Farmer/Farmer's daughter cred counts for a lot.

I live in Iowa and I am thrilled with this poll. Braley is a total piece if shit that does not represent Iowan’s values.

Joni's campaign slogan is one of the most "poignant" in US campaign history"

JONI: "I know how to castrate pigs---so send me to Congress."

Joni knows most Americans daydream about castrating the pigs in Congress.
