It could be that its such an efficient killer that it doesn’t allow for survival of the fittest to allow those most resistant to reproduce.

If it likes the humidity, then winter will certainly have an effect on in, not for the cold but because it becomes so stinking DRY.

Cold air cannot hold the moisture that warm air can and when cold winter air comes into a building, the relative humidity plummets.

There isn't much contagion threat until the person is symptomatic. Once symptomatic, they won't be shaking hands much, and they will be recognized, quarantined and contacts investigated.

How fast do the symptoms come on?

I know with some colds and flus I've had, I've had indeterminate symptoms for a could days before going into a full fledged raging sore throat where I could say with certainty, that I was sick.

Some of those symptoms have been simply fatigue and a slight bloating, a water weight gain.

Hey babe, want to hook up?

I dunno, where have you been? I have not seen you in a while?

Oh, I just got over this case of Ebola, but I'm fine now.

Nah, I'm kinda busy and I'm going away for a while so don't call me, OK?.

But the point you make is an interesting one! Of Ebola survivors, has immunity been passed on to their offspring(if they could still reproduce after surviving Ebola).

My understanding is that at one point in history, syphilis was a really nasty disease, very symptomatic and killed very readily, until it passed through enough of the population to either mediate it or that enough people with some kind of natural immunity survived.

Also, look what small pox did to wipe out indigenous populations of the Native Americans and Hawaiians when it first spread through them because there was no natural immunity to something they had never been exposed to before.

This could be the case with Ebola. All it would take for a pandemic is something new.

Would an Israeli Civilian Gas Mask with NBC NATO Filter do the trick? Even though Ebola is not yet airborne, this gas mask covers the eyes and nose and mouth. Better than nothin', huh? I guess rubber gloves would be a must as well.

From what I'm reading on potential outcomes, it would be smart for every American citizen to have such a set-up ready.

That is my magic 40 bullets theory. The human immune system has 40 battle ready antibody squads ready for very specific invaders. The list of those new and old invaders needs to be revised over time and exposures. The oldest get retrained as needed if their enemy of the past has not been seen in a few decades or so. If that number exceeds 40, or is presented with a sudden new enemy with no genetic similarities to an old one, it’s likely any immune response will not take place in time. That’s why we have live weakened virus and dead virus immunizations for prevention of dying from a virus. We introduce it’s genetic code or inject some weakened virus into the host (me and you) so our magic bullet squads have time and resources to program our white cells to immediately jump into action should we encounter the real thing.

At this point our concern level over this should be “on”, but not yet pegged. Keep an eye out, read up, but I don’t think we need to be taping down the windows yet.

(Although I got a great deal on some germicadal bulbs for my dehydrating packages. Those kill bugs dead.)

http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/hcp/infection-prevention-and-control-recommendations.html

This still has N95 for Health Care Personnel (HCP) in aerosol generating procedures around Ebola patients.

Do you have a link for the N100 recommendation? I mention because the CDC often produces dual recommendations for HCP and the public, the latter who are far less likely to have intense exposure in a closed environment.

This matters because N100 are almost twice the cost, and for many the filtration makes inhalation very difficult. This is a longstanding problem with military filtered breathing equipment.

There was a discussion on the survilllance list. Somewhere LOL. And the complaint was because the cost was significantly higher for the N100 ones.

They sell them on Amazon. I noted that they sell some as “used”.

This Ebola is showing signs of asymptomatic transmission.

I had not heard that. That would be troubling news.

That’s why I said “isn’t much contagion threat until the person is symptomatic”. I will stand with that statement at this time.

One of our guys back in the day tried demonstrate that “bearded full face” would work with copious application of Vaseline.

You can guess how that turned out. (mess)
