NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - A ship with three sick crewmen is scheduled to dock in New Orleans, the Center for Disease Control confirms.
CDC officials said they received word earlier today that a ship which had traveled near where the Ebola outbreak is will dock at the New Orleans port.
A CDC staff member, emergency workers and members of the U.S. Coast Guard will board the boat and transport one ill crewman to a local hospital for evaluation.
No word on which hospital the crewman will be transported to.
The CDC said they are taking extra precaution because of the Ebola risk, but that is thought to be “exceedingly low.”
“The vessel’s itinerary did include Matadi, DRC, in addition to other ports, but there is no evidence to suggest that the crew members traveled to, or had any contact with anyone from the remote inland region of DRC where Ebola cases are occurring.
Given this, the chance that the crew member could have Ebola is thought to be exceedingly low,” the CDC said.
We’re told two other crew members who reported mild illnesses will also be evaluated.
The CDC staff member assisting local health officials was already in New Orleans for training.
Exactly. No one should be allowed to set foot on US land if they departed from Africa - by air or sea. They should be told to turn around or they will be shot. Besides, how do we know they’re not delivering “cargo” from ISIS and using the “sick man on board” story to dock?

Stymieing foreign trade to stop the spread of a killer disease is the last thing our puppet leaders will do. The important priority for them is to maintain trade so that the commercial interests can make money....and contaminate the world with Ebola, etc.
The West Point slum was low hanging fruit since it could be isolated. But in the end the better approach was to go in there, find the infected people and quarantine each one of them.
Of course sending them here is a bad idea (for us) whether by boat or plane. But when they get here (not if), we will treat is like malaria and wipe it out before it spreads as we do routinely with malaria cases that make it here.
