God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

Now you did it. Speaking simple truths like that don’t go over well. Words can’t mean what their actions describe cuZ that would be judgemental and stuff. In Modern Conservatism, people have adopted a more ethically flexable approach. So now one can back and excuse a liberal 2 years after most of FR admitted their error and still sit at the ‘cool kids’ table because in Modern Conservatism, high school never ends.

Next thing you know you’ll call a guy in a boat with a fishing pole a fisherman when he could easily be a jet pilot flying real low.

Thats the beauty of modern conservatism as practiced by liberals. It can be fully liberal and yet, called rock ribbed conservatism...ANDDONTYOUDAREQUESTIONIT!!!!!!!

Dede Scozzafava, the NARAL, Planned Barrenhood, tax hiking, “gay” everything promoting who, when she lost a primary and endorsed some other leftist to thwart the Conservative? That one?

Boy that’s conservative!

Amazing, ain't it? I mean, I know there are small 'c' conservatives... those who adhere primarily to one or two of the factions, so I guess there can be some sort of room in that regard. But what passes as conservative these days - those that think they are - Sometime all you can do is shake your head.

Like always, the liberals like to co-opt a word and change the definition.

Pissant and PDS was what brought me out of lurk mode. I just couldn’t deal with that level of stupid. But lightning got him before I could re obtain my password (forgotten after a long posting absence.

That and my job at a newspaper kept me in read only mode for a long, long time.

Conservatism has room to flex and adapt but the core is the core. Their Newspeak/Cheshire crap is well beyond it. In any other context 99.9% of FR would look at that and correctly identify it as liberal. But no one wants to upset their online friends and call them what their actions are.

Of course, if Myth Romney appointed Billy Jeff to the SCOTUS that would have been a vote for Obama because he could have nominated Hillary. BUT it would also be a vote against Moochelle but for Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Who’s on First? It is soooo confusing.

They would have been a horrible disaster under McCain and/or Romney. Our political party has been suffering the Invasion of the Party Snatchers.

Ah OK. That one isn’t ringing a bell for me.

I miss the tender moments with WTC911 and his obsessive PDS and stories of Baldwin porn. And Drey who hired illegals to do her roof while bitching about fences.

Of course we still have one like that now posting LaRaza site fence info...

Outstanding post.

BTW, the site is still plagued with “It’s Bush’s fault” cheering squads. I guess they’re still attempting to convince others he had a trace of conservatism.

Fact is that disaster led us directly to the Obola administration.

In the 2012 election I voted for Gary Johnson (former governor of my home state) rather than Romney (who I consider unacceptable).

Then we have you to thank for the Won!

Conservatism has room to flex and adapt but the core is the core.

Yup. As far as I am concerned, if one cannot support the known immovable primary principles of all the factions, it isn't Conservatism. Or at the least it isn't Reagan. Thereafter, within that sphere, there is plenty of room for compromise, but what holds us together is still the idea of the three legged stool.

Their Newspeak/Cheshire crap is well beyond it. In any other context 99.9% of FR would look at that and correctly identify it as liberal. But no one wants to upset their online friends and call them what their actions are.

I think it really started happening during Bush (W) - Neocons have an extreme distaste for civil libertarians (almost a bellwether) - saw a lot of good folks run off of here for that case. And without a defense of Federalism, and Constitutional conservatism, the door is opened to statism... From there, beat down the Austrian Capitalists, re-dress financial 'conservatism' as Keynesian economics on a global scale, and there ya go - Anything goes.

and that's exactly what happened under Bush - the SOCONS and DEFCONS at least got the nod, but both branches of the FICONS (fiscal and civil-libertarian) were shoved unceremoniously under the bus.

And the SOCONS, without a sense of FICON principles, grows well under the artificial light of the nanny-state (think Huckabee). But then, so does many other things - and I think the SOCONS got more than they bargained for... Value voters ignored, and Saddleback elevated... Which brings us right here.

The only reason liberalism succeeds is that it is unopposed. And those that should defend against it, are mostly blinded.

G'nite all... I am heading for the crib.

Kinda sorta rings a bell. Wasn’t that one of the True blue exodus?

Now THAT was a lovely bunch of coconuts. I remember getting the invite email for that and replied with “ERhm...have you READ my posts on Mittens?”

Never got a reply strangely..

Speaking of which, we are no coming up on the 12 hour mark and the original troll on the thread still has not produced a hint of Romney conservatism as requested. Well technically the 6 year mark but I digress ;)

Should be carved into the top of every page.

"W" wasn't evil but he wasn't his own man. He might have done great had he broke away from his dad and Ford's team. First mistake and I know I'll be flamed was Rummy. Rummy had been Fords Sec of Def and mediocre at best. A six year time frame from when Ford assumed POTUS and the end thankfully of Carter's term was one huge mess for the military.

My active date was in late October 1976. By mid February 77 I was on board ship. Morale was screwed up as was discipline Navy wide. It was a time when if you wanted out {it was volunteer military} all you had to do was go AWOL 31 days and have your command list you as a deserter. You might see a week or two Brig time or not wherever you turned yourself in at and you were out of the service. Lot's of people did it. By roughly early 78 that was put to a screeching halt as it should have been. You got your AWOL tacked on plus you did the time for a General DC. The walk off policy began under Rummy. By late 1980 significant changes were underway at least in the Navy. I credit that likely to a change in SECNAV.

Yea I know it was post Nam era but still morale and discipline has to be there. Picking Rummy was a mistake for Bush. Murtha's witch hunts ran roughshod over troops under fire on the word often of Iraqi's. That's BS. You back your troops in combat.

The Ford & Bush GOP-E vs the Reagan GOP were as different as night and day in policy and operational philosophies both domestic and foreign policy wise. Hindsight now shows us which one was right.

Er...no. he clearly said he did not vote for Obama. Did you miss that?

If he'd voted for Romney, that would have been one more vote against an Obama second term.

But that's not what he did. He voted for the Losertarian, thereby voting to allow Obama to win!

You obviously don't understand how elections in this country work. The guy with the most votes is the Won! It doesn't matter the reason any particular vote was cast. It only matters that it was cast. Or could have been cast.
