US Airlines scramble after 100s of passengers had contact with Ebola patient

Hundreds of airline passengers were exposed to the Liberian national before he landed in Dallas, last month, as it is revealed that he took at least three flights to get from Monrovia, Liberia to Texas.

Officials announced that Thomas Eric Duncan flew through Brussels to get to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport - but no airlines operate a direct flight from the European capital to Dallas, meaning he had to take a connecting flight in between.

U.S. officials have refused to release details of his itinerary, including which city he connected through - claiming that none of his fellow passengers are at risk.

Several leading U.S. airlines said on Wednesday they were in close contact with federal health officials about Ebola-related travel.

Airlines for America, the industry trade group, on Wednesday U.S. airlines are in regular contact with the Centers for Disease Control and other government agencies about helping to prevent the spread of Ebola.

You just sit there shaking your head at the stupidity at all levels.

Right now I am seething at the elites telling us that halting commercial flights is useless. It is not. You halt commercial flights to the Hot Zone. Anyone with a Hot Zone passport can enter the country AFTER a being quarantined for 21 days in Cuba. Then for the sneaks who come to the US from the Hot Zone with an American Passport, they too have to be quarantined for 21 days at the local prison. (OK, I am joking some what)

Their protective gear seems nonexistent.

“A virus does not “grow up”. It just multiplies, so by day 2 there is a higher probability of infecting others and being sick yourself.”

I didn’t realize that. I figured the virus needed to grow to the stage to be transferable, not that it is there immediately.

What does incubation period mean then?

“Hey, UAL, you need help not spreading the Obola virus throughout the world? This is gratis...Don’t FLY passengers out of the Obola zone during the epidemic!”

Hey, Delta Dawn. Perhaps you shouldn’t spread lies.

United does NOT fly in or out of Liberia. The man flew out of Liberia on Brussels Airlines to Brussels. United flies out of Brussels.

I just heard a guy at work here in Plano, Tx. (global semiconductor design & manufacturing company) say he was on the same flight as this guy with ebola in Dallas... I’m not sure what to do... Do i tell my boss that i’m leaving for the day and work from home possibly for the next 3 weeks... I don’t want to panic but hells bells. Any advice from Freepers.

You should be OK. Ebola is not that contagious. Do you have a medical person at your job location? Talk to her/him if that makes you more comfortable. Remember, there is only 7 more days to go since your coworker was on the same flight. So, this time next week all will be 100% good. Now you can feel 99% sure you are OK.

I dunno. New York voted for terrorist-pardoning Hillary shortly after 9-11. Anything is possible with those wackos.

“What does incubation period mean then? “

The time from exposure to when the virus has multiplied enough for a person to become sick.

The “time to sick” can be more or less depending on how a person’s immune system fights off the virus multiplication.

I am not a doctor. This is based on what I have read.

Okay. Sounds like the incubation period has nothing to do with when the person can transmit the disease.

Thx for your help.

I agree! People on this site are something else. Note that the scenario you described is precisely what he did.

Everyone on that plane should sue the airlines for carelessly exposing them to the virus by allowing Ebola onto the plane. It is not only up to the government to order protection of people; corporations have responsibility to protect customers, too.

Insanity. Who in their freakin’ right mind would believe the statement that they flippantly give “We won’t release the itenerary becuase none of his fellow passengers are at risk.”

This is criminal. Do they realize the ridiculousness of that statement? How do they know none of them are at risk. What if he coughed on the seat and then someone touched it, or in the counter in the bathroom, or really anywhere... put his hand on top of your seat as he walked down the isle and he had just coughed into his hand.

Many people would say the statement “our government is out to kill us” is insane. Well this statement makes me feel like it is not so insane.

I have already told my company I won’t be flying to clients for the immediate future until I can be personally assured of responsible flight precautions. That probably means I won’t be flying for a long time.

Is this a joke?. I mean , really is this a f’in joke.

Two illegals spraying some water on a mud pit? Our government is so farcical at the point you couldn’t write a parody comedy of this quality.

This has got me enraged.
