Liberians in my exposure have very traditional English names.
He needed a visa to enter the USA. He couldn’t just buy a last minute ticket and jet right over. He wouldn’t be able to get a visa in couple of days.

And Dulles International airport is in Loudon County Virginia, which is rather red, as opposed to Baltimore Washington International (BWI) in Maryland, which is deep blue. Hmmm.
I just checked on Expedia. It shows round trip for around $1100. His wife is an American citizen, she has lived here for several years, and he may have purchased a one-way ticket. So, he could possibly have flown here for around $600.
