Texas Orders Family of Ebola Patient to Stay Home

News Release October 2, 2014

Out of an abundance of caution, Texas and Dallas County health officials have ordered four close family members of the Dallas Ebola patient to stay home and not have any visitors to prevent the potential spread of disease.

“We have tried and true protocols to protect the public and stop the spread of this disease,” said Dr. David Lakey, Texas health commissioner. “This order gives us the ability to monitor the situation in the most meticulous way.”

The local health department had previously instructed the family to stay home, but a strict public health control order is needed to ensure compliance. Ebola is not contagious until symptoms appear. The family members do not have symptoms at this time.

The orders were hand delivered to the family members Wednesday evening by local health officials. The orders legally require the family to stay at home and not have any visitors without approval from the local or state health department until at least Oct. 19. The order is in place until the incubation period has passed and the family is no longer at risk of having the disease.

The order requires the family to be available to provide blood samples and agree to any testing required by public health officials and to immediately report any symptoms to Dallas County Health and Human Services. Symptoms include fever above 100.5 degrees, headache, nausea, diarrhea or abdominal pain.

Texas law allows the state health department and the local health authority to issue control measures to a person who is ill with, has been exposed to, or is the carrier of a communicable disease. (Health and Safety Code §81.083). Control measures by law can include isolation, quarantine and preventive therapy. If a person does not follow these orders, they can be enforced by the courts, and the person can face criminal charges.

Our pioneers had more common sense than these idiots.

From an old newspaper....forgot the date. A family in Irondequoit NY had smallpox. They were kept totally isolated. People in their goodness would leave baskets of food on their porch. I believe most of the family survived. Haven't read the article in years but it did catch my eye.

I think the point here is the Texas officials have more sense than the entire federal health apparatus spear headed by his excellency. Oh, given the problem what does our leader do? He is off to a fund raiser in chicago.

Finally, the state of Texas is doing something the US government refuses to do.

I am so cynical of rats, I think in libtard states, they would be ordering them to go out and spread the disease.

If one other person gets sick in that family, then it has been spread all over the place. I think the idea that it can’t be spread until you have some kind of visual symptoms is a lot of cr**.

Only a couple hundred years ago, countries would not let ships from plague or pestilence regions come ashore until they sat off shore anchored for 3 weeks to a month.
Why do we let planes from these places lands and disembark their disease ridden passengers into our population?

Too little, too late. If they violate the order, what, do they get a ticket? They are in an apartment complex, not a stand alone, isolated residence.

How about lock them up in isolation so they have no choice. This isn’t a case of the sniffles we are trying to control.

The CDC is busy following Obama’s directives re gathering and misinterpreting gun holder statistics. Don’t worry about that man sneezing on the airplane, spitting in the Emergency Room or that diseased body rotting in the corner,(just don’t touch it).

This is the second time in the past three months that Texas has taken the reins. The first was deploying the State Guard to the Mexican border when Obama refused to patrol the border.

The illegals in Dallasrobably wish they’d have stayed home.

IIRC Great Britain keeps all dogs in quarantine for three weeks.
They know how to set their priorities.

The wife and I are flying in about a month. I’m beginning to wonder whether it’s a good idea.

A family in Irondequoit NY had smallpox. They were kept totally isolated.

Many years ago I ran across a newspaper clipping that told of my great-great grandparents' house being sealed off and quarantined for measles or mumps (or some such thing). That's the way it was done.

They will probably be sued soon, ala Arizona and its illegals.
