The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way Monday for legal same-sex marriages in five more states. The court refused to hear cases from the states -- Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Indiana -- seeking to keep their same-sex marriage bans in place. Couples in some of those states began applying for marriage licenses just hours after the Supreme Court's decision. CNN affiliate WVEC in Norfolk, Virginia, captured a same-sex couple who rushed to fill out their marriage license documents. Officials in Virginia began issuing same-sex marriage licenses at 1 p.m. Monday. Tony London and Tim Bostic, two plaintiffs in Norfolk, said they were ready to receive their marriage license Monday afternoon.

This is not a non-issue. What is on the line here is not two lesbians having access to government benefits, it is the question: Is America a Christian nation? Today’s ruling is a powerful NO.

Hard to do when your state is addicted to billions in federal money. Obama will just call the governor of the state and remind him where the social security checks come from. You cannot be politically independent while you are financially enslaved.

Not in the eyes of the legal system or government. I’m with you as much as it sickens me we’re in much worse shape across a myriad of other issues than something addressing such a miniscule number of people. Our country will go down the tubes for a myriad of other reasons...this to me just isn’t one.

Not long ago, some dude in Oklahoma proposed a bill that would get the State out of the “recognizing marriage” business altogether.

We may need to look at that again.

Hey, the USSC aren’t the only cats out there that are allowed to change the rules.

What world do you live in? This has everything to do with the usurpation of powers reserved to the states and individuals by the Tenth Amendment.

30 states have voted that homosexual unions should not be called marriage nor granted the privileges of matrimony. SCOTUS allows these rulings against God, nature, and the residents of these States and you label it States rights? Think you should head back to DK...

Because we have allowed government to define “marriage” for its own purposes (such as taxation and regulation of estates), we have allowed government to define marriage as a social institution. That was fine as long as people in control of government were generally supportive of God’s original definition of marriage. However we have entered a time when a growing number of people in control of government want to redefine marriage for their own purposes, which in part is contrary to God’s definition.

Marriage is now far more a matter of politics and ideology than of private religious beliefs.

Therefore, for the sake of marriage as God defines it, it is time to remove from government the power to define who is married and who is not. Then gays could form whatever relationships they please but they could not force those who disagree to be enablers for those relationships. And we would not have schools that must teach that homosexual “marriages” are just as legitimate as heterosexual ones. Nor would we have owners of wedding photography services being threatened with arrest and being convicted of a crime for merely declining to artfully photograph a “marriage” they find morally repugnant.

What it shows is that they aren’t Conservative. They are corporatists. BIG BIG difference.

This is about states rights...which everyone screams for. The Supreme Court is leaving it in their hands. 30 states have already "approved" of same sex marriage. The Supreme Court did the right thing.

Sorry, but you can't have paid much attention to the news for the last couple of years if you think this is what that was about...the Court declined to hear appeals from states to have their right to define marriage reinstated that was overturned by judicial fiat. You have it backwards.

Many think Roberts himself is a gay blade, being threatened to be outed if he doesn’t keep on “the right side of history”.
There are those who claim that’s why he changed his vote on obamacare.

You need to read the Holy Bible and understand that homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord God of Israel who created all things by Jesus Christ and who will judge all mankind, where you will learn that you do not make law that supersedes the laws of God Almighty. Perhaps you need to be saved?
If you will believe how that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again the third day for our justification, you will be saved. If not, you and all of the unbelievers will die in your sin and be judged for all your many sins and be consigned to hell itself, with so many people who did not believe on God’s Christ and therefore were unsaved. PS. there are no good people, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. the good news, Christ Jesus loved you and died for your sins and rose again for your justification to reconcile you to God the Father.

I have often thought that there was something that man had hiding in the closet after he changed his vote and allowed the democrat party to enslave America using the obamacare agenda; such a great evil. Perhaps they had pictures to blackmail him with.

It is simply sad that these politicians, robed and disrobed, are permitted to shove perversion down the throats of the populace. Sick!!!!!!

If the Republican Party lacks the backbone to stand against this perversion, I am through with them. I am sick and tired of jellyfish swine like Lindsay Graham selling out. Is there no decent politician left who will stand for the American family?

You canput lipstick on a pig but that don’t turn it into a movie star. Call it whatever you will but queer marriage is not marriage.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was confirmed by the Senate in a 96 to 3 vote in 1993. The Republicans lost their way a long time ago.

The Constitution no longer exists. The United “States” of America no longer exists. It will eventually happen but the country needs to break up.
