~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Anniston Army Depot, Alabama

Anniston Army Depot (ANAD) is a major United States Army facility fulfilling various depot operations. Primary missions are production and repair of ground combat vehicles, overhaul of Small Arms Weapon Systems and the storage of chemical weapons (Anniston Chemical Activity). The depot is located in Bynum, Alabama.

The depot employs over 5,000 people and covers 25 square miles of land. Tanks and other equipment are repaired and tested there, but historically Anniston's main role has been as a major munitions storage site, since WWII.

ANAD is the only depot capable of performing maintenance on heavy-tracked combat vehicles and their components and houses a state of the art 250,000 square foot Small Arms Overhaul facility that opened in January 2012 replacing a previous facility that was outdated.

The depot is designated as the Center of Technical Excellence for the M1 Abrams Tank and is the designated candidate depot for the repair of the M60 Patton tank, AVLB, M728, M88 Recovery Vehicle and M551 combat vehicles. During the Iraq War, over 1,000 M1 tanks, howitzers and other armored vehicles were stored awaiting re-engineering.

ANAD is also the Army's primary site for final assembly, reset and overhaul for the Stryker family of wheeled fighting vehicles. All ten of the Stryker vehicle variants are assembled in the Nichols Industrial Park area by Contractor General Dynamics Land Systems.

Stryker Battle Damage Repair and Reset is accomplished through a work sharing arrangement between the depot and contractor, including a Stryker Exchange Program that converts the original flat bottomed Stryker vehicle to the IED-resistant Double V Hull configuration developed for combat operations in Afghanistan.

NEW UPDATE ON EMMA LILIANA ROSE:

Emma was taken off the ventilator today. She is breathing 100% on her own. This is extremely good news. Mom (Tiffany) is still fighting off the infection, but is doing great. Emma does not appear to be suffering any ill effects from the maternal infection.

Praise God, and thanks to all who have been praying for Emma and Tiffany. God listened, and answered those prayers.

Thank you so very much, Kathy, for sharing these photos of Emma. And, thank you for everyone’s prayers. Tiffany has been released from the hospital. Emma will be there for a while longer. She is 100% breathing on her own as of today. Everything is looking very well for her.(p)

on a much sadder note, my mother, who my wife and I have been taking care of for 7 years, passed during the night of October 10th or morning of October 11th in her sleep. She had been suffering through a bout of Lupis for several days prior. My wife, that morning when checking on her, found her already gone in her bed.(p)

As when my dad was killed November 4, 2006 while we were waiting for Robert to make it home on leave, my mom’s passing comes when our family was already dealing with other issues. Baby Emma’s premature birth, and we have a granddaughter, Madison (age 5) going in this Thursday to have her right leg amputated due to fibular deficiency. (p).

We request, yet again, your prayers as we struggle through these difficult times.
