Researchers: Ice still thinning in Arctic; record ice in Antarctic
Philly.com ^

The final results are in, and the Arctic ice cover reached its sixth-lowest extent this year in the era of satellite recordkeeping, dating to 1979, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

While 2014 nudged last year to No. 7 on the list, the overall seasonal loss between the high and low points – March 21 and Sept. 17 – was the least since 2006, the center said.

The total areal coverage, 1.94 million square miles, was significantly higher than the 2012 nadir – 1.32 million square miles – but the center said that overall ice is vanishing at the rate of 13.3 percent per decade.

“This year was nothing surprising. Overall we’re continuing the long-term decreasing trend,” Walt Meier, research scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, was quoted as saying in the center’s news release.

By contrast, at the other end of the world the snow-and-ice cover reached a record level at the Antarctic. As of Sept. 22, it stood at 7.76 million square miles, or about 8 percent above the 30-year average...

The USS Skate surfaced at the North Pole in 1958. I don't recall any Russians there.

So there is more ice then ever but it is disappearing.
Kinda like the number of people not working is rising yet the unemployment rate is dropping.

I don’t trust this report. Anyone who want the real scoop should look at the charts Joe gives in his videos at weatherbell.com

How would you like a job at the National Snow and Ice Center. Sit around on your ass for over half of the year doing nothing.

Me either. The first thing I noticed is that they increased the total area of coverage by .62 million square miles. I am willing to bet that the increased area is farther south in warmer temps, so comparing this study to previous studies is comparing apples to oranges.

The planet is expanding inches per year. Volcanoes and earthquakes are the result. The expanding planet theory does not fit into any progressive propaganda so is dismissed.

It has something to do with dark matter. http://www.nealadams.com/index.php/science

Too close to a God thing for mainline left wing progressives to comprehend.

"Said Ted Scambos, the center’s lead scientist: “What we're learning is, we have more to learn."

How can this be?? Global Warming is SETTLED SCIENCE. We know everything there is to know about it. The earth is gonna fry, and we can't do anything about it, unless we live on a hut on a half acre and get all our food off the land.

wait, wait, wait.. let me guess...

We will all be covered in water by (insert random year here) unless we stop (insert random act of capitalism here) and incentivize alternative energy production (insert tax increase here) by (insert election year here) or the planet is doomed by (insert date 100 years out so nobody will be alive to remember failure here). The science is settled (insert inconclusive random data and data points and images of bears and children here) and if you question it, you are stupid.

am I close?

My God! This is horrible. We are all gonna die!

Let’s see if I got this right: Half of the earth is undergoing global cooling and the other half is undergoing global warming. That’s what the article said didn’t it?

Now, with this in mind I would guess that the equator would have perfectly stable weather with a perfect temperature for everyone. Hot + Cold = wonderful climate.

Try it out: Pour 1/2 glass of boiling water in to a glass. Next, pour 1/2 glass of freezing cold water into the same glass. Guess what? You have the perfect temperature.

We need to move to the equator and the hoax of global warming/cooling would not concern us.

Right????????

That is correct. I guess the Russians were there, but just couldn't get the sub to surface.

I can’t find the section for respondents having an IQ above 50..., The most kowledgeable are not afraid to acknowledge what they don’t know, ignorance insists it knows all. The antarctic ice is not melting significantly because the temps are nearly always well below freezing! I’ll try to help you understand - if you begin with a temp of ten below and raise it four degrees, how much melt do you get? Start at 20 degrees above and raise it and melt increases. This story is the same as all of them, no science at all and only a forum for those who prefer the way a 5th grade bully talks on the playground (that’s pretty much the style) as apposed to an intelligent discussion of facts. ‘Cause tbey would get ripped to shreds.

"Well, there’s at least one honest scientist out there"

I completely disagree, since Meier also said:

“This year was nothing surprising. Overall we’re continuing the long-term decreasing trend,” Walt Meier, research scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

That is an extremely dishonest statement. The fact is that Arctic ice reached a minimum in 2012 and has increased significantly since then. The increase was a record in 2013. We are simply NOT continuing a long term trend. His statement is dishonest political spin.
