Wisconsin, Texas voter ID laws blocked by courts

The U.S. Supreme Court has blocked Wisconsin from enforcing its strict voter identification law in this year's election..

By a 6-3 vote, the justices granted an emergency appeal from civil rights lawyers who argued it was too late to put the rule into effect.

Lawyers for the ACLU had noted the state had already sent out thousands of absentee ballots without mentioning the need for voters to return a copy of the photo identification.

It would be "chaos," they said, for the state now to have to decide whether or not to count such ballots because the voters failed to comply with the new law.

Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr., Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas dissented. The six justices in the majority did not issue a written opinion to accompany the decision to lift an order by a lower court that would have allowed the law to take effect.

At nearly the same time, a federal judge in Texas struck down that state's new voter ID law on the grounds that it violated the constitutional right to vote and discriminated against racial minorities.

Texas Atty. Gen. Gregg Abbott said the state would appeal the ruling.

The Wisconsin and Texas cases were the two most closely watched tests of new voter rules this year. In both states, the Republican-led legislatures sought to tighten the rules for voting and to require all registered voters who did not have driver's license to obtain a photo ID card at a state motor vehicles office.

Check Mexico’s voter ID law. They all have to have a card.

I still don’t know where these activist “judges” get the authority to tell the states what they can and can’t do. The Founding Fathers have to be spinning in their graves. The crap we have going on in this country now IS NOT WHAT THEY MEANT!

The court is absolutely silent on one of the biggest federal fascism intrusions in history, but must interject here? What a politicized group of faggots.

That’s awesome they’ll just be busing them in everywhere even more. This time the bus will come with diseases.

I’ve never seen such corruption in my life, the politicians, the courts, the media. Unreal.

It’s this kind of garbage that makes me think the Globalist crowd is right. There’s no other answer to this. They all want this country turned in to a cesspool of disease and poverty.

I think it is growing more and more clear that Roberts is another Souter. That’s really unfortunate and going to cause damage for decades to come. really really bad..

Chief Justice Roberts has voted to uphold Obamacare, uphold gay marriage, and against voter id. I think we can now say that conservatives have lost the majority on the supreme court.

I no longer see a path forward that does not end with another civil war. We have crossed the threshold and can no longer have our government and our freedoms at the same time.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find some really nasty secrets in Roberts’ personal life;at the very least the irregularities in his kids adoptions are unacceptable in someone whose life is dedicated to law.

It seems the very poor and the very rich are more likely to commit sex crimes;one feels they have nothing to lose, the other feel their money protects them.

Is the judge saying blacks and Latinos are too stupid to have an ID? Why are whites capable of having IDs but minorities aren’t? Are that that freakin’ stupid?

The Constitution gives them that right. While I totally disagree with this decision this is NOT the Articles of Confederation. It is the Constitution ... supremacy clause and all.

While I don’t at all buy into silly conspiracy theories with no basis in any fact, I DO agree that there is a palpable shift taking place in the Court. And it is disturbing.
