Leaving Gov. Huckabee’s statement aside, I too would stop supporting and voting for Republican candidates if the party were ever to drop its opposition to homosexual marriage or abortion. As a lifelong Republican volunteer, donor, and voter, I firmly believe that it would be better for the country in the long run for a fallen GOP to lose power completely so that it could eventually find its way back to the social principles under which it was founded. If the fiscal and foreign policy wings of the party think they can go it alone without social conservatives, they will soon discover that they were gravely mistaken. I support the entire Republican party platform (and even have helped write a few portions of it), but any party without principles deserves to lose.
