Check the article's picture. See the doctor with the gurney? Notice anything wrong? She's waiting for the deputy to arrive so she knows it's a possible Ebola patient. Her neck is exposed. She's not garbed according to protocol. She hasn't ordered away the looky-loos in street clothing. And that is at the same hospital that Duncan was so they should be well practiced by now. Is it any wonder they now have the virus within their ranks.

My question is, in the press conference going on now, the CDC guy says she had extended contact. Yet it has been said she was not on the list of one of those being closely monitored. This lady was not on the “monitored” list, she was on the self monitored link. If she had extensive contact, why wasn’t she part of the monitored group.

Yes, it must have the tulip’s name attached to it permanently. This strain of ebola will henceforth be called the “Obamastrain” of ebola virus.
HE OWNS IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because she wore PPE.

And more:

This is from Dallas' THPH with the deputy, their potential second Ebola patient (tested negative). They should be well practiced in Level 4 protocol and not one other hospital staff stopped her. Note to the doctor/nurse's hubby - no neck hickies for the wife tonight.

This is from a CDC training drill. The dude with the disinfectant spray might as well be those guys in the Dallas apartment parking lot. More stupidity on parade while bringing in the NBC journalist. Aside from the fire and RESCUE (!) guy, the patient with runny eyes exposed, the answer, my FRiend, is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Can someone explain why the family members who were in closed quarters with the infected lying gentleman have not shown any symptoms while this health care worker has?

Incorrect.

This is existing CDC protocol garb:

This is what THEY do in their special isolation units:

This is going to cause an absolute shitstorm, even if Obama can keep OSHA out of it. Given the overrepresentation of HCW unions at OSHA, this may not be possible.

Watch the panic kick in now.....

U.S. Centres for Disease Control says all health workers who cared for Thomas Duncan who died from Ebola virus now at risk of infection.

We are being lied to. If the nurse in full protective gear has contracted Ebola, how is it that no one in the apartment has contracted Ebola? I don't believe that no one else who was around Duncan is not ill.

I think the problem is with removing the protective gear. We are taught how to remove our isolation gowns, but we have never seen anything like Ebola. In Africa, the health care workers are sprayed down with a disinfectant ( I think it is a bleach solution) before they remove their gear. They are not doing this here, as far as I can tell.
Hospitals do not have a place where the health care workers can get sprayed down. Most hospital rooms don't even have an anteroom.
In order to properly protect health care workers and others, there needs to be a different system setup. Erect tents at the front of the hospital .If you are displaying Ebola symptoms, you go to the tent, not to the ER.. All health care personnel wear protective gear in those designated tent areas.Fast track the testing so that the results are back in less than 4 hours. If testing shows to be positive, you are escorted to the Ebola ward , which could be in an outside tent. The staff can much more easily decontaminate outside than inside. Then, the rest of the hospital functions do not get affected.

Well there is no time like the present to get the space suits.

Clearly with Spain nurse, this lady, and routine infection of doctors et al in Africa the normal methods do not work.

If the nurse in full protective gear has contracted Ebola, how is it that no one in the apartment has contracted Ebola?

The gear picks up lots of virus, keeps it warm, makes the worker sweat and raises skin temperature, the virus is probably adapted to 38 or 38.5 degrees, and the ID50 is absurdly low.

Fits all the known facts. The attack rate among doctors and nurses (since 1976) has been way too high for a standard contact OR droplet model. I think airborne is convincingly ruled out by the Sawyer plane and now by the apartment.

It's the gear. The gear is the vector.

Immediate change is required. Don't hold your breath.

Yes his family was skirted away to some gate community. They could all be dead, buried in a lime pit somewhere. Do we really expect truth from government and news media?

How long before doctors and nurses and orderlies stop showing up for work? Will the government force them to work?

I think nurses will be the concern they have the most patient contact. A doctor can do a lot without necessarily having patient contact. Nurses can quit their job and many nurses will choose not to work in the ICU. So if this gets even minimally bad you may see a shortage of ICU nurses. Moderately bad you will see Doctors and Nurses retire or quit.

Most likely they will bring in the Military to do this where they can actually force a Doctor to work. Civilian Doctors can refuse to take the case because they determine their hospital is under equipped to handle the patient care. They may be threatened by loss of hospital privileges or the State can threaten loss of license to practice. But I would think a good lawyer could fix this while earning a pretty penny for him or herself and their doctor client.

I also believe that Hospital personnel that care for an Ebola patient should be isolated until the incubation period has passed after last contact and they have tested negative to the virus.

It’s interesting reading posts on here that are exact repetitions of what the government is saying.

Anyone who believes one word the government says is extremely gullible.
