Health officials struggle to control the media narrative about Ebola
The Hill ^ | Oct 12, 2014 | Elise Viebeck

The Obama administration is battling for control of the media narrative about Ebola as conditions worsen in West Africa and fears of an outbreak mount in the United States.

Health officials insist the virus will be contained and stress the potential for infection is remote. While Ebola is frightening, says Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Tom Frieden, health officials "know how to stop it."

Bears repeating:

Once the normal American realizes Ebola may be coming through a porous border, no one will support amnesty anymore as the demand to seal the border will be made to protect us.

And I would add "Once the normal American realizes terrorists and/or Ebola may be coming through a porous border". . another 9/11 and a pandemic may wake Americans up. . maybe not.

How about battling to control the damned disease instead of worrying about the media spin.

The excuse of President Abomination to not stop air traffic between West Africa and the United States is we need to be able to deliver supplies and medical help and personnel to these nations. This is true.

However, there is absolutely no reason not to limit these flights to essential needs only with no exceptions. Upon return all the passengers on the aircraft will be put in quarantine for 21 days with the exception of the aircrew. The aircrew is to remain on the aircraft until it is serviced and turned around for the flight home. This would require two Captains and First Officers.

Contact between crew and passengers on the return flight are to be minimal. Feed them sandwiches that are prepared in the USA prior to the flight to West Africa. Upon return to the USA all waste from the plane is to be treated as a bio hazard material. A few gallons of clorox in the waste water will take care of this all other waste will be bagged and burned. Wipe all surfaces down with disinfectant. Park the plane for 6 days with ground equipment keeping the temp in the aircraft elevated to about 90 degrees and with a very low humidity. Any viruses that the disinfection missed will die.

I would suggest these flights be done by the military.

Any person that is from West Africa coming in on a flight from Europe would be banned from entry.

Seal the Southern Border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration. If this is not done all the above precautions are irrelevant.

“That’s true, but it’s only necessary to hide it through the elections. Early voting is getting ready to start. A widespread panic would negatively effect the rats chances...”

But they are certainly trying — spinning and lying.

See article posted by maggief:

CDC chief on second Ebola case: There was a breach in protocol

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3214207/posts

“The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said there was “clearly” a breach in protocol that led to a Texas health care worker contracting Ebola after treating a Liberian man who later died from the virus, although authorities do not yet know what that breach was. “

If they don’t know what the breach was, there is no way to know whether or not there was a breach. This is just more spin and lies to lull people into a false sense of security.

Obviously they are spinning. And they are letting 100's of new potential cases into the country every single day. The mode of transmission is from bodily fluids but that includes fomites (infected surfaces) up to six days old according to the literature. It can include droplets in the air, but not enough to infect the passengers in the plane's cabin where Patrick Sawyer was vomiting blood. The woman next to him died and the flight attendants who had to clean up the vomit.

There are huge risks to Americans and many innocent Americans will die from the political correctness of letting hundreds of potentially infected people in every day (the 13,500 visas are the main problem). But until we see Jalllah and other family members in the hospital with Ebola there is not much to worry about that kind of contact. We can surmise they were lucky and Duncan washed his hands after handling his own bodily fluids. Or the PTB could be hiding their infections until after the election but that seems a little far fetched.

That’s true, but it’s only necessary to hide it through the elections.

That is possible, but they would have to hide the secondaries and so on. They would not be able to look for them openly. Or they simply forget about all the secondary contacts and let it spread and blow wide open after the election. All of those scenarios are far fetched.

A droplet from vomit or saliva or blood will transmit the virus. But the virus does not aerosolize like the influenza virus does.

Only partially correct. The droplets from sneezing or coughing are not defined as an aerosol. However, they are quite infective.

Below links are pictures of sneezes and coughs using an high speed camera. You will not like what you see.

Slow motion camera from Myth Busters showing the same, you will have to watch an advertisement first but it is entertaining.

I agree a sneeze like that is infective. Furthermore the saliva samples from new patients in Africa tested positive earlier than other body fluids. It is a threat, and I am not trivializing it. But it is not aerosolized like influenza virus. If that were the case there would be thousands of new cases a day in the big cities in West Africa instead of sporadic spread.

“Health officials insist the virus will be contained”

They’re lying and we all know it: they’ve lied about everything else. Gosh, and don’t you feel so sorry for the liars because of they “struggle” to control the media, uh, I mean the “narrative”? Of course, we all know this administration is putting all of it’s energy into controlling the “narrative” instead of focusing its energy on protecting our nation from potentially being destroyed by Ebola arriving from foreign shores.

Their word are hollow lies. Already, a Dallas health care worker has tested positive for Ebola who was involved with treating the infected illegal alien who snuck into the country . Quarantines and closures and shutdowns around just that one newly infected person have occurred.

The problems with things like this is that they grow exponentially. Even if Ebola grows slowly to start with, unfortunately, we ain’t seen nuttin yet. Just wait until flu and norovirus season hits to see what a completely paralyzed nation that battens down the barricades REALLY looks like as millions have symptoms that are much like how Ebola starts off!

The trenches of our medical system are woefully unprepared for something like this. And thank you, President Obola for your “fundamental transformation” when flu season hits!

Oh, and PLEASE let’s keep those West African shuttles flying back and forth, since obviously it would do no good anyway with your open borders policy. Oh, and everyone? Be sure to vote a straight Democrat ticket in November: they really DO care about you folks, ya’ll hear? After all:

“Now, I am not on the ballot this fall,” Obama stressed. “... But make no mistake: My policies are on the ballot — every single one of them.” (Including unrestricted West African air flights.)

Director Tom Frieden, health officials "know how to stop it."

Frieden knows how to monitor the disease in a village setting where the patients get so sick so quickly they have limited ability to walk around and infect others.

Two stories early on out of Africa were that patients were 'looking good' almost up to the point of death... (which means they can spread the disease to more people) and that 'health care workers' in Africa (who traditionally dealt with this disease) were getting infected.

To me that makes it feel like a more dangerous strain of the disease.

They’re not idiots. They know exactly what’s coming and they’re trying to keep the public in the dark until they can come up with a plan for what to do when it reaches panic stage.
