ABC Medical Expert: ‘Very Real Possibility’ U.S. Soldier Contracts Ebola
Mediaite ^ | 12 Oct 2014 | Evan McMurry

ABC News medical expert Richard Besser told This Week Sunday morning that there was a “very real” possibility one of the 3,000 U.S. troops being sent to west Africa to help fight the ebola outbreak could contract the virus.

Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases had discounted the possibility, pointing out that U.S. troops would be tasked with “logistics, engineering, command and control, and setting up field hospitals.” “Certainly going over there, they could indirectly get contact, but their primary mission is not to take care of patients,” Fauci said.

That wasn’t the clickworthy answer host Martha Raddatz was looking for, so she re-asked the question to Besser, who complied. ADVERTISEMENT

“Right now we have a situation where only 20% of patients with ebola are being treated in treatment units,” Besser said. “So there are a lot of patients who have ebola who are not in a protected environment. So the possibility of a soldier getting ebola is very real and something we have to be ready for.”

Raddatz added that the military was prepared for that scenario.

Why are we sending our airborne guys, marines and other untrained military personnel re bio hazards like Ebola into the Ebola hell hole of West Africa?

The soldiers at Fort Detrick are well trained in viruses and how to handle them.

Are they being sent there to guide our other troops?

If not why not?

See the link below that describes the history of Fort Detrick and up to the present. The personnel there probably more experience re Ebola versus any other group in the world including our worthless CDC.

I’m sure our very own in-house FR ex-spurts will be by shortly to parrot the obama party line that there is no danger what-so-ever.

yepper - or repeat that the chances are really-really low (which makes the health care worker in Dallas a hell of an anomaly), to provide special comfort to those who do contract it.

Does Anthony Fauci know our ‘boots’ have been give little bottle of hand sanitizer?

Fauci and the CDC are worthless when it comes to protecting American citizens.

Fauci protects African's feelings...

Fauci needs to collect his paycheck from Africans... Why should we pay a doctor's salary so he can 'protect the world'? Let the damn 'world' pay him.

Then Fauci worries about health care worker and their 'space suit' safety.

Last Fauci 'doesn't give a damn' about the American businessman sitting on a plane next to an ebola carrier for 6 to 8 hours with NO SPACE SUIT, NO MASKS, NO GLOVES. And he has a wife and kids sitting home waiting for Daddy to come home...

We're asking for Fauci to stop flights out of African hot zones until we know the nature of this strain of Ebola. It's not forever. Fauci's beloved Africans can still come here in two months IF this disease is NOT as contagious as it appears to be..

Obama will sacrifice the lives of our GI’s to make a ‘feel good’ gesture to West Africa. And the media will cheer.

“But why?

Were these soldiers a threat to the Tyrant by Fraud Obola,
or just to be used as vectors to kill more Americans?”

The answer to “But why?” is most likely BOTH of those the answers you gave. I fear that the enemies, here, within our country need to both decimate our military and our population, so that their hidden troops (compliant muslims) can take over and destroy the success, well-being and peace of our country. They want to remake it into the dirt-poor dangerous chaos that many of their own countries are.

But what do I know...? I am just an ordinary average American descended from generations of ordinary average Americans.

Besser just got back from Liberia. In my opinion he has been reckless with how close he has gotten to ‘action’ in the Ebola hot zone. If this guy thinks our troops could get infected...they’re in trouble. He ie definitely not chicken little.

“This is what scares the hell out of me with this lunatic in the White House. One day he’s going to get a lot of people killed on our soil.

Clinton got 3000+ killed on 9/11.”

So glad someone else acknowledges that is was Clinton who caused 911 and to me it was the Clintons and how they treat islam as if it is a low self esteem issue which it isn’t.

Obama on the course playing golf while things that need attention go wrong, reminds me of Nero standing on the roof fiddling why Rome burned.

These troops would be justified in refusing to go. I would much prefer spending some time in a military prison than being exposed to Ebola. This is a gross misuse of our military.

This is a gross misuse of our military.

That's what I thought, until I heard Col. Hunt say that this is a special unit that is trained for biological/chemical warfare, containment of pathogens, etc.

That's according to Col. Hunt, last week on the Howie Carr Show.

US military is for the defense of the US. Send supplies, tell them how to use them, ban flights from West Africa, and protect our citizens and soldiers. If that is selfish, too bad. The risk of these troops bringing Ebola back to the US is too great.

I don't object to a true chem/bio warfare unit being deployed in principle, since were the disease to break out, it would eventually affect Americans.

But the troops should be quarantined for an appropriate time on their return.

And we should ban all commercial flights from West Africa, which is categorically different.

I still don’t see why we should send our people into this and then force them to be quarantined on their return. Why anyone would join the military these days with the way they are used and abused is beyond me. Politicians use them as pawns, then toss them aside.

While the talkies, talk radio show hosts, need to remind “US” of this.. Members of the House and Senate also seem to forget. While those selected to head various federal departments of government are recomended by the incomming POTUS (president of the United States).

Those candidates are constitutionaly required to be approved by the Senate in a procedure known as advise and consent.. Those appointed then are also sworn to uphold, protect, and support the constitution. Not the executive branch. .

Therefore they and their respective departments are answerable to both houses of congress which funds these operations. Department heads can and should refuse any executive order if that order works contrary to existing legislation which expands its jurisdiction given to it by congress, or best interests of the country or follows policy directives which place its citizens in eminent danger.

If they refuse to do so. Congress should act through de-funding, censure and impeachment of that department head and ultimately the executive (president) which gave the order.

Vectors. The fact that Progressives still support this cancer on our Constitution (Obama/Dunham/Soetero) is proof they that are mortal enemies of freedom. We should be sending them to west Africa, with nothing but an ObamaCare card that they can hold out in front of them to ward off the disease.
