The manhunt for accused Pennsylvania cop-killer Eric Frein is costing at least $1.1 million per week and has drawn in 300 troopers.
Frein, 31, a self-described survivalist and military reenactor, has been hiding out in eastern Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountain region after he allegedly gunned down one state trooper and wounded another on Sept. 12. Up to 150 state police working in 12-hour shifts have been searching the steep, rocky and wooded terrain for five weeks, the Allentown Morning Call reported.
But authorities may catch a break with the change in seasons. Price Township locals are already reporting a thinning of forest canopy as leaves begin to fall off trees. Police said that the barren environment will make it easier for them to use thermal imaging technology, PA Homepage reported.
"I think that will be his downfall, the winter," resident Linda Heller told PA Homepage. "Because there will be tracks and it will be easier for (police) to follow."

Well I suppose this is a humorus allusion to the Stalone movie but it is an interesting question.
I have yet to read what set Frein against police.
I am sure they will mine it for everything they can. I heard a town cancelled Halloween a month in advance because they don’t plan him to be caught by then.
This is about justifying law enforcement (”security force”) budgets, and taking more money from taxpayers and re-distributing it to the “government worker” class.
Hey, he killed a police officer. It’s not like he shot Nebraska corn farmer Bob Johnson, or someone unimportant like that.
I don’t believe this.
“I dont believe this.”
I have no insight into the truthfulness of it. However, there is an intrinsic risk in fooling around with someone else’s wife... And there is almost always a motive to a crime.
I tend to agree. He is gone by now.
Sort of surprised by that. The troopers need to eat and stay someplace unless NJ is having them commute from their regular posts.
My question is; what are they going to do come hunting season when thousands of guys are walking through the woods?
I agree w/ you though, he's long gone by now.
I guess one day we will find out the truth.
Hey, he killed a revenue collections officer. Its not like he shot Nebraska corn farmer Bob Johnson, or someone unimportant like that.
He has a criminal history. Years of petty theft from war re-enactment vendors, finally caught in 2004 and charged when he stupidly tried to resell items on ebay, then friend ratted him out. Failed to appear in court, became fugitive from justice in NY and PA, hid out in the same woods he is in now for several days before father convinced him to turn himself in, served approximately 3 months in prison....

Thanks
If that is what put him against LEOs I guess he has a problem taking responsibility for his own actions.
That’s the general feeling I’ve gotten from following the case. 31 years old, still living with parents, unemployed with scanty job history but plenty of time to pander to his military re-enactment hobby, dropped out of college twice, heavy smoker of very expensive Serbian cigarettes ($25 a pack online) but no car of his own so was still driving parent’s jeep, criminal history of petty theft and jail time made worse by failing to appear for court and then evading arrest hiding from the police....
All narcissistic and juvenile behavior, from what I can tell.
I have a good job and I couldn't afford a cigaret habit like that!
How can he afford that with out a steady job?
“How can he afford that with out a steady job?”
I’ve wondered the same thing.
My thoughts exactly.
If he was in the area I think he would have been caught or have killed someone esle by now.
They have found cahes but not him.
In an area that large and that heavily wooded it would not be that hard for someone familiar with the area to walk out.
The guy is long gone.
