What Happens When Too Many Voters Support Redistribution?

Back in 2010, I shared some wise words from Walter Williams and Theodore Dalrymple about how society can become unstable when people figure they can “vote themselves money.”

On a related note, I shared the famous “riding in the wagon” cartoons in 2011 and the “Danish party boat” image in 2014. Both of these posts highlighted the danger that exists when societies reach a tipping point, which occurs when too many people vote themselves into dependency and expect (and vote) for never-ending handouts.

Indeed, this is why I’m very pessimistic about the future of welfare states such as Greece.

And, depending what happens in an upcoming run-off election, I probably won’t be very optimistic about Brazil.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses..."

Atttibuted to Alexander Tytler or de Tocqueville or Elmer T. Peterson...anyway, someone said it.

the rich get richer because they find ways to completely opt out of the tax system

If you live in Maryland, you move to Delaware
If you live in New Jersey, you move to Florida
If you live in France, you move to England

when the libs pollute all the nests, you find a way to get off the grid! Those days are coming fast!

Greece and Brazil? Just Greece and Brazil? What about the United States? It is done for as well.

The liberals want to give every American over 18 years old 30,000 dollars base pay. Then you get a job and let’s say you get 50,000 dollar a year job. You would have 80,000 a year. Sounds good but who and how would we pay for this? They said it is cheaper than welfare and other support given to the poor. It would be interesting to see a study on this.

Wow. Of course we never tried it. Let’s think about it for a moment....we would not need unemployment, welfare, food stamps, social security, Obamaphones, reduced housing, free medical and a lot of other bennies......if it was 30K a year. I bet we would come out even due to all the bennies we give out.

Well that is so true. I guess after a few years 30K would have to be 35K and on and on.

One of my favorite's from MP!

"Dennis Moore, Dennis More, etcetera, etcetera..."

Fast-forward to the end of the sketch...

(Usual montage of Dennis Moore riding plus song.)

Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore Riding through the land... Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore Without a merry band He steals from the poor. And gives to the rich Stupid _itch.

(Dennis Moore reins to sudden halt and looks over to camera.)

Moore: What did you sing?

Singers: (speaking) We sang... he steals from the poor and gives to the rich.

Moore: Wait a tic... blimey, this redistribution of wealth is trickier than I thought.

It is only when you hit the wall and bellies are empty and the desperate government class ramps up on applying compliance to their liberty and wealth stealing activities do people finally realize Revolution and the removal of the thieves is all they have left!!!!

Viva la Guillotine!
