What is to Prevent Ebola Spreading to Central and South America?
self | October 15, 2014 | self

We have one of the best health care systems in the world. The CDC assures us that the outbreak is under control. There have been only 2 new cases since the Liberian patient arrived.

The 1918 flu epidemic killed more people than WW2. The mobilization of millions living in close proximity aided the spread of the virus.

Crowded conditions accelerate the spread of disease. Children crowded on trains moving through Mexico, and living in refugee centers in the US would cause the disease to spread more rapidly and allow the virus to rapidly enter the US.

Why are our leaders gambling with the health and welfare of the citizens of the United States by not having in place a secure border? What are they thinking?

what Liberian would go to Mexico?

Also, look at it historically. Did the 1918 influenza virus make it to Central and South America?

Only one thing: West Africans have no special desire to go to Latin America, as the level of freebies is much lower than in the degenerating empire of the USA.

Its been my concern as well. There is little to stop infected people from going there and if it settles into a native animal population it will become a permanent threat.

From WHO, incubation period can go up to 42 days in some people

link

...Incubation period

The period of 42 days, with active case-finding in place, is twice the maximum incubation period for Ebola virus disease and is considered by WHO as sufficient to generate confidence in a declaration that an Ebola outbreak has ended.

Recent studies conducted in West Africa have demonstrated that 95% of confirmed cases have an incubation period in the range of 1 to 21 days; 98% have an incubation period that falls within the 1 to 42 day interval.

WHO is therefore confident that detection of no new cases, with active surveillance in place, throughout this 42-day period means that an Ebola outbreak is indeed over

I would imagine the level of freebies is nil.

"The first pandemic wave, which was benign and caused few deaths, took place in the spring of 1918. After a period of calm at the beginning of the summer of 1918, the virus mutated, becoming extremely virulent, and simultaneously caused millions of deaths throughout the world during the following months of October and November. A milder third wave occurred during the initial months of 1919, while the fourth and final wave spread during the first months of 1920."

And yes, it went to South America. Mortality rate was ~1%.

Thank you for this info.

We need to quit calling it the Ebola epidemic or the HN whatever the hell it is killing kids all over America, and start calling with EVERY thread, political speech and news article “The Democrats Biological Warfare on America”. Please help.

I agree. Some articulate person (I am not one) should call the talk shows and introduce the label.

It would also help to have a catchy name for the concept. “The Democrats Biological Warfare on America” is accurate, but a bit wordy.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Voters? Do you actually think there will be elections after Obola declares martial law.

Seriously doubt we will be able to access Free Republic from the re-education camps, also.

Nothing can stop it short of totally cutting off all travel. There is no cure and it’s out of control in Africa and will be soon in other areas.
