However, it is indeed a fact that he does not have National appeal.

Cruz's ideas unfiltered by the media would of course have national appeal. People like you don't help.

some candidates are leery of appearing with him because he is a polarizing figure who could turn off independents and centrist Republicans.

I am so sick of this pile of garbage.

So why don’t they try Mel Tillis, or is he “Democrat”?

I wonder how many outside TX could even identify Ted Cruz if he passed by them in an airport.

Yeah, just like Rubio, Walker, Paul, Pence etc....

I don’t think we need to be searching for a celebrity/cultural icon to hook up with.

Every Repub ought to know all about “Catalist.”

Of course, the Repubs have no comparable system.

But they should all know the principle it’s based on: Getting a voter in your base to vote costs less than getting a “moderate” to vote.

Getting an “extreme” right-wing or extreme left-wing voter to vote costs about ten cents in advertising, etc. Getting a “moderate” to vote costs about one dollar!

Repubs who chase the “moderates” are flushing millions of dollars down the toilet.

Cruz isn’t staying away from all of em. He’s the Speaker at a “campaign” barbeque right down the road to help several of our local East Texas GOPers.

Bull. Independents flock to Ted Cruz, why? Because Independents are fed up to their ears with republicans and democrats.

Check it out: Registered Independents made up 24% of voters in 2012 but now make up 42%! Yes you heard that right. Do an internet search and you will see it is correct that a huge number of former republicans and democrats have left their parties and registered as Independents.

Why isn’t this in the news? Because news people don’t know how to do their quick and dirty Soap Opera like newscasts when there is no figurehead. no leader of the Independents.

But Cruz will take 2/3’s of Independents in 2016, why? Because he stands up to both the democrats and the GOP Establishment just as Ronald Reagan did.

With 2/3’s of 42% (28%), all of the Conservative Base (26%), all of the Perot Demographic (6 million + strong; 5%), at least half of the Latino vote (4%) and more, Cruz wins in 2016 by at least 63%, a historic landslide blowout and likely more as democrats become increasingly demoralized and stay home (about 8% to 10%).

The Latinos will vote for Rafael Edward Cruz over Hillary Clinton because Latinos are cultural voters, not ideological voters. They are pro-Latino first. Even if a SEIU union boss tells Latinos to vote Hillary, they will pull the lever for Cruz when in the voting booth because they identify and are proud that a half-Latino President will be in the White House. That’s just the way they are.

CRUZ WILL BLOW IT OUT IN 2016!!!

Didn’t he majority of TX Hispanics vote against Cruz in the November 2012 election and for a little known white Democrat?

Note that I said half of Latinos would vote for Cruz and that accounts for 4% of the electorate.

Estimated in 2013 that 60% Latinos supported Sadler and 40% for Cruz. But those numbers have since changed as Obama’s job approval plummets.

> “I suppose that the takeaway from this is that Texas Hispanics still lean strongly Democratic, but it is also interesting that the population tends to self-identify as ideologically conservative, a circumstance that should cause concern for Democrats in the years ahead.?

Latinos are now warming and flocking to Rafael Edward Cruz.

Texas Hispanics still lean strongly Democratic

Will probably always be true; it will be interesting to see what percent of Hispanics choose George P. on November 4. The best we can do is withhold votes from George P. as a message to Jebbie. Let's hope George P. runs last among the Republican statewide candidates. But there is little doubt he will win.
