MOSCOW — The U.N.’s World Health Organization on Tuesday approved a measure committing countries around the world to sharply raise excise taxes on cigarettes and other tobacco products, a key step to what critics warn will be a push for a global tax on tobacco.
Meeting in Moscow this week, WHO delegates, representing 179 countries and about 90 percent of the world’s population, voted to move ahead on implementing a key part of the 2003 Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The WHO is the public health arm of the United Nations.

Why is it just THIS particular substance/habit that creates such an economic "burden" on society????? What about all the alcoholics, druggies, obese, adrenaline junkies, workaholic stressed-out, poor diet(ers), crazy drivers, people who sleep around, people who never exercise. You can get liver disease, diabetes, heart disease, catastrophic injuries, STD's, need rehab, cause car accidents etc. Since people are now required by law to have health insurance it's not like the smokers are all running around with lung cancer and the tax payer is footing the bill for their inhalers, oxygen, whatever.
Once the UN gets taxation authority over anything it will inexorably metastasize to taxation authority over EVERYTHING.
A smoker dying in their 60s from cancer is actually cheaper than someone who lives into their 80s when you factor in things like social security.
Obviously, tobacco related treatments are more for smokers, but it’s not cheap to live long either.
They do this because they can - because enough people either hate it or fall for the incomplete stats.
They won’t do an AIDS tax though, which would actually be easy now due to gay marriage, e.g., cost of “normal” marriage license = 25$, cost of gay male license = $10000.
Kind of sounds like the Tea Tax or the Stamp Tax. I hope the blue helmets come around to collect. They should ask the Brits how that worked out, something about a shot heard around the world or ?

France’s Jacques Chirac was very clear about this, that it doesn’t matter *what* kind of international tax is created, but one such tax *must* be created, to establish a precedent for world taxation.
The internationalists slobber all over themselves at the prospect of international control over taxation. Not just donations, but the ability to reach into the treasuries of nations to take what they want, to further their agenda.
Their agenda of one-world government. With them in charge as an unelected hereditary elite.
The anti-democratic European Union is a great preview of what this would be like, but a hundred times more evil. A fetid pit of corruption, graft, oppression, stifling control over all human endeavors, inhumanity, and yes, perpetual war.
They want this, out of their firm belief, to paraphrase Satan in ‘Paradise Lost’: “It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven.”
