(Updated at 12:30 p.m.) Arlington County’s hazmat team is on the scene at the Pentagon due to an possible Ebola case on a tour bus.
Medics responded to the Pentagon this morning for a report of a woman on a bus who was sick and vomiting. When they learned that she had recently arrived from Africa, the hazmat team was called out of “a complete abundance of caution,” Pentagon Force Protection Agency spokesman Chris Layman told ARLnow.com.
A large portion of the Pentagon south parking lot has been cordoned off with caution tape, and police are telling those who don’t work at the Pentagon to avoid the immediate surrounding area.
The woman has been transported via ambulance to a Inova Fairfax Hospital. The county’s medical director also responded to the call and is at the hospital with the patient, according to scanner traffic.
Layman said the bus was at the Pentagon for a tour of the Pentagon Memorial. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic has been shut down around it.
A tipster with knowledge of the emergency response tells ARLnow.com that the patient recently traveled from the West African nation of Sierra Leone, and that four first responders are being held at the hospital due to possible exposure. That tip could not be immediately confirmed.
Arlington medic units and Fairfax hazmat units are on scene at Inova Fairfax Hosptial, according to news helicopter footage.
As of 10:50 a.m., Arlington County was mobilizing its Emergency Operations Center to deal with the incident, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.
Just before noon, the county issued the following press release.
Arlington Responds to Possible Ebola Case
At about 9:10 a.m. today, Pentagon Police officers identified a woman in the Pentagon South Parking Lot, around lanes 17-19, who was ill and vomiting. Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) was notified and responded immediately with both emergency medical aid and HazMat response team.
During the response, the individual allegedly indicated that she had recently visited western Africa. Out of an abundance of caution, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic was suspended around the South Parking lot, while Arlington County responded to the scene. At 9:53 a.m, the patient was taken to the Virginia Hospital Center; however she did not exit the ambulance. ACFD then transported the patient to Fairfax Inova Hospital.
Arlington Public Health is directing the public health response to this incident. Arlington County has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and a Joint Information Center (JIC) to manage the incident.
At the Pentagon Out of an abundance of caution and to allow the investigation to proceed, pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the Pentagon South Parking lot’s lanes 7-23 will remain restricted until further notice. The Corridor 2 entrance to the Pentagon is also closed.
More information will be released when it becomes available.

Yeah, what the heck does that mean? I live in Columbus OH area and on the local news it was reported that a woman called 911 that her sister had been to W Africa, that she was vomiting, had a temperature of 107. They played the 911 tape, and after asking questions they dispatched a hazmat team and the entire routine. She did not have Ebola, but wasn’t feeling well and thought if she said Ebola the squad would come faster.
To hell with a bomb. Just get Ebola and ride around town.

I think we’re going to see a lot of that. People know it’s the ticket for a fast, free ride to the emergency facility, where it will then be determined that they don’t have any of the risk factors, have been lying (temperature of 107?), and just didn’t want to take a taxi the way other people do. Hope there are serious consequences for this - it’s like a fake bomb call.
With all the new numerous cases of people vomiting, it makes you wonder if vomiting ever did exist before. Couple that with the positive testing during verbal screening, we are sure lucky that Ebola was not here before Ebola was here. Sadly, I do not think we will ever be told the truth until people start falling in the streets. They are taking a calculated risk not being forthright . Nothing else is making sense, presently.

A logical person would think that we'd restrict travelers to and from there, if we had a president who gave a rats ass....
So I take it they’re not going to let the vomit sit for 5 days before clean up. As I’ve said, let this dreaded disease hit DC or Hollywood and watch O get very serious about it.

This disease doesn’t transmit like the the flu but, just like H1N1 in 2009 it sure does get around.
Heavy on the sarcasm and disbelief of its transit in so many places.
Then again, they are running at .02% being positive for the disease.
Flu season is coming. Why not go for the trifecta and get H1N1 and SARS in on this....
The Russkies in their media are already claiming that the U.S. has weaponized Ebola and are using it. Considering the Russkies have not gotten rid of their biological weapons such as weaponized Ebola, one wonders if the reverse isn’t true.
It is close to 21 days since the first Ebola case made it to the US. We should see some unexpected deaths soon if it is more virulent then they suspect.
