Of course, there aren’t 3 hospitals in the country prepared to deal with a virus that requires level 4 containment, much less at a cost of 1/2 million per patient to be dumped on taxpayers or the hospitals. USAMRIID worked on development of this virus for use as a bioweapon for good reason, but they did it under level 4 containment.

Not to mention shutting down the ER and basically the whole hospital for weeks

Take her to St. Elsewhere.

Hey, wasn’t that the Mooch’s job? Turning away patients? I’d like to apply for one a those jobs. $300k a year, I’ll pay for my own hazmat suit. But I’m not marryin’ the gay guy.

Medieval is an understatement. Even after having some time with the bubonic plague. Locations in Europe figured out enough to not let visitors into town to protect their territory from the plague.

EMTALA violation.

Couldn't have been. She didn't need stabilization or much of anything else.

The primitive part was that one of our most advanced hospitals refused to treat a patient.

EMTALA requires a Screening Medical Examination. By regulation, this cannot be done in the ambulance.

She got one — at the other facility. Diverts aren’t uncommon.

Nope. Once the ambulance was on hospital property (actually within 250 yards of it), an MSE is mandated.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
