GOP REP: HAITI REUNIFICATION SHOULD BE STEP FOR DACA PARENTS
breitbart.com ^ | October 21, 2014

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) stated that she believed the Department of Homeland Security’s recently announced program to allow thousands of Haitians into the US was “a great step forward” that she hoped would provide an example for policies to handle the parents of children who fell under the Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on Tuesday’s “Jose Diaz-Balart” on MSNBC.

Ros-Lehtinen added that the program was beneficial because “that is the leading economic driver for Haiti, remittances from Haitian-Americans back to their family members in Haiti. It's billions of dollars every year. Haiti needs that.” And “it's good for Haiti to recover from this earthquake. I’ve been there many times, and it looks like the earthquake was only yesterday. So, they need the help. They're our partner. They're our hemispheric partner. We need to help them. This is a step forward.”

I read recently (forgot where) that these "thousands" ain't just that. More like a HUNDRED THOUSAND, reported Friday.

That's not DACA relief; that's a DISASTER for our sovereignty.

He is going to throw open the gates and let havoc roll.

I didn’t realize Haiti had a representative in Congress! Did she swear an oath to Haiti by any chance?
Did Obama swear an oath for Liberia?

I grew up in South Florida and lived there until 1998. There are already many Haitians there. Sending 100K more would be a disaster. I can’t figure out why she is for this. Haitians are third-world people and will not assimilate well.

Remittances sent abroad = fewer opportunities and less economic growth for Americans.

Any politician holding office who is OK with that needs to lose their job.

I'm sick of being used as the world's cash cow.

What about the citizens of this country formerly known as the United States? I guess we only count when we vote and donate for this traitor to be reelected.

ARREST CONGRESS NOW.

How come liberals never mention how relatively prosperous the Dominican Republic is? They never had any of the grinding poverty or problems that has afflicted Haiti.

The island is like looking at the difference between North and South Korea.

The Dominican Republic has the ninth largest economy in Latin America and the second largest economy in the Caribbean and Central American region.[13][14] Though long known for agriculture and mining, the economy is now dominated by services.[4] The country’s economic progress is exemplified by its advanced telecommunication system, and transportation infrastructure.[15] Nevertheless, unemployment,[4] government corruption, and inconsistent electric service remain major Dominican problems. The country also has “marked income inequality”.[4] International migration affects the Dominican Republic greatly, as it receives and sends large flows of migrants. Haitian immigration and the integration of Dominicans of Haitian descent are major issues.[16] A large Dominican diaspora exists, mostly in the United States.[17] They contribute to national development as they send billions of dollars to their families.[4][18]

My mother had a visiting aide come see her recently. She moved her family from the Dominican Republic to here. The first thing they did was learn English. I asked her what she did in the Dominican Republic. She said she was a lawyer, and her sister who still lives there is an engineer. Anyway, she is studying nursing at night.

They aren’t lazy people

This idiot is a good example of what is wrong with a large segment of the Republican Party.
