Believe it or not, I know a woman who is adamant that she would rather be raped and beaten to death, even watch her daughter raped and beaten to death, than be defended by an armed citizen.
It goes without saying that she is a rabid progressive.
In my house there are many weapons, all in locations known only to me, and never more than a few steps away. Not all of them are guns. A claw hammer, well-thrown, can buy you enough time to get to the nearest gun. I learned to throw knives at Culver Military Academy when I was 14. I still practice regularly.
One would immediately suspect she had never been raped and beaten to death before...maybe just to the limits of cognitive function, or it could be a fantasy thing..
I hope her daughter gives someone else medical power of attorney in the event she is unable to make her decisions...mom sure seems willing to throw her to the wolves.
I would think a 9mm will give you a few more rounds with just a small loss of energy. A 9mm gives you about 600 J, whereas a .45 ACP can give you 835 J (Bonded Defense.) On the other hand, I have a .357 Magnum (964.0 J with Gold Dot) :-)

What is really sad is that people like the one you mentioned are really afraid to assume personal responsibility for their own safety even when facing a criminal that would rape, brutalize and even murder them. They have been raised to believe that the police are their personal protectors & the police are the only ones who should deal with violent criminals.
