‘Calibration issue’ pops up on Maryland voting machines
Fox News ^ | 10-27-14 | Kenric Ward

Voting machines that switch Republican votes to Democrats are being reported in Maryland.

“When I first selected my candidate on the electronic machine, it would not put the ‘x’ on the candidate I chose — a Republican — but it would put the ‘x’ on the Democrat candidate above it,” Donna Hamilton said.

“This happened multiple times with multiple selections. Every time my choice flipped from Republican to Democrat. Sometimes it required four or five tries to get the ‘x’ to stay on my real selection,” the Frederick, Md., resident said last week.

Queen Anne County Sheriff Gary Hofmann said he encountered the problem, too, personally.

“This is happening here as well. It occurred on two candidates on my machine. I am glad I checked. Many voters have reported this here as well,” Hofmann, a Republican, wrote in an email Sunday evening.

Two other Maryland voters reported the same in Anne Arundel County on Friday.

from your link. The iPhone's capacitive touch screen doesn't have the concept of calibration.

If every calibration error results in a republican vote switching to a democrat, then it is not a stretch in logic to presume it is not simple error. It is planned and seems to be working because people accept the notion that it cold be a simple calibration error.

I can't prove that dropping an egg on the floor will always result in a broken egg when it hits the floor because I can not prove, that at some time in the future the egg may not drop to the floor, but if I were betting based on known outcomes I could feel safe betting that the very next time I dropped an egg on the floor it will in fact break.

None of us will ever have access to the programmable cards that are used in calibrating the machines but there are several YouTube videos that show exactly how easy it is to manipulate the outcome.

Only an idiot or a democrat can believe what the voting machines report is actual fact.

If you want a cure remove the secret ballot, post every name and who or what they voted for then you can check to see if your vote went where you intended. I for one am beginning to see the secret ballot as a license to steal elections.

“Pitchfork and torches time!!!”

If they aren’t going to do this, then I personally wont care.

I’m sick of this story every election, only to have our side just give their sheepish reports, and then go about their day.

“well I reported it to someone...”

Ooooooooooooooh what an effort!

GET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE TOGETHER AND MARCH ON WHOMEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE THINGS OR STOP COMPLAINING!

“If the machine doesn’t work properly, do they have the option of a paper ballot vote in precincts with these god-damned machines?”

It should be required that they do, and the election can't be certified until the paper ballots are counted. If that count differs from the electronic count, then the paper count should be used, and the difference should be investigated.

‘If’ this is happening, why is it happening in a blue state?

And in TX and IL. The fix is in on so many levels it isn’t funny, it is tragic.

This article (and first part of the thread) are from 2014

Early voting has not started in Maryland. Maryland will use optically scanned ballots this election. So, why is this thread even on Front Page news?

“Do ATMs make those kinds of mistakes? No, they don’t, and Deibold makes both machines.”

Your point is a very, very good one! The 2012 Presidential election doesn’t look close when you look at the final percentages (51.1% vs 47.2%), but the difference in votes nationwide was less than 5 million, which was 3.86% of the total vote counted.

My point is that voter fraud can most definitely swing an election. Think about it as the sum of multiple fraudulent activities. Let’s say ‘calibration’ error or some such thing changes only 1 in every 300 votes. Based on 2012 turnout this would amount to about 430,285 votes altered. Then remember that this ‘error’ is actually subtracting from one candidate and giving to another, so the actual difference a 430,285 vote change would make is double this number (it would result in a 860,570 vote change in the difference between the two candidates).

Add this to all the other types of vote fraud, including dead people voting, non-citizens voting, more votes coming from a district than there are voters, etc., and you can easily see how it can all add up to the point where you can sway even what is considered not a close race. It matters.

I missed that, but the issue remains relevant.

“An electro-mechanical device is set up to do one task. Instead it does something completely different. That is not a “calibration” issue.”

Exactly. Oh my, I pressed a 4 on my calculator and got a 6. I can safely assume that has NEVER happened. These machines are rigged.

...the issue remains relevant.

Yes, but bringing up out-of-date stories and threads is a distraction. We need to focus on problems with the current vote counting systems, of which there are many.

The one thing that doesn’t make sense is the machine shows it’s malfunction to the wary.

It could be programmed so the switch from GOP to DEM is under the hood and undetectable. Why show the blip on the screen? I sense some of this is user error.

Funny we hear no reports of democRAT votes switched to Republican.

Maybe Obama was right when he said you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than voter fraud. That is of Republicans. F U B O!

I asked about that when the voting machine went ‘wonky’ at my polling place (when I inserted the little credit card device to activate it the machine announced ‘this vote has been cancelled’) and the election workers threatened to call the police at my insinuation that the voting wasn’t above board.

Well, why would you mind if the police were called, if there was a problem?

The very insinuation there was a problem was enough to get the election worker VERY teed off.

It’s a VERY blue county. What do you think would happen next?

The fraud is in the voting machine programming. There’s no way to prove anything short of literally taking one of the machines (BEFORE it’s turned off that day btw, easy for the fraudcode to delete itself on shutdown) and forensically examining it’s code.

Good luck with that.

At worst--you'd be asked to leave for causing a scene.

I was asked to leave. Did you misunderstand my post?

When the election worker threatens to call the cops because you have a question about the voting machines integrity, that’s asking you to leave.

What do you think the cops would do when they got there? Possibly arrest you. It’s a small blue county, for all I know the election worker might be the popo’s first cousin...

I’ve been following your arguments, and I find it interesting. I am a software engineer, and I have programmed touch-screen kiosks. Is it within the realm of possibility that these are “calibration errors”? Yes. Given the number of instances being reported, and given the fact that the only instances being reported are errors where votes for Republicans are switched to Democrats, I find the likelihood of it being a mere calibration error very remote. Can it be proven? Sure. Crack open the voting machine and check the calibration. I’ve done this to kiosks; it’s VERY easy to do.

Will that be done - i.e., will it be proven? Given who is running our government, I doubt it.

What can be done instead? Be vigilant, and if you see it happening when you vote, yell. Sadly, many if not most voters probably won’t notice, and fraud will occur.
