8 foods you're about to lose due to climate change
The Guardian ^ | October 29, 2014 | by Twilight Greenaway

As worsening drought and extreme weather devastate crops, you may begin seeing global warming when you open your fridge.

According to David Lobell, deputy director of the Center on Food Security and the Environment at Stanford University, “The general story is that agriculture is sensitive. It’s not the end of the world; but it will be a big enough deal to be worth our concern.”

Lobell has already noticed the effect of climate change on some crops. For example, he says, yield data from corn and wheat production suggests that these two staples are already being negatively affected by the changing climate. Similarly, fruit and nuts are also showing the impact of climate change. Fruit trees require “chilling hours”, or time in cold, wintry environments, for optimum production.

Here’s a list of the foods to enjoy now – while they’re comparatively plentiful.

Corn (and the animals that eat it)

Coffee

Chocolate

Seafood

Maple syrup

Beans

Cherries

Wine grapes

I guess we should stop feeding that precious corn into our gas tanks then!

Actually the byproduct of ethanol production makes excellent cattle feed.

You like steak don't you ?

cyclic climate...CA is mostly arid...desert...currently in a pretty nasty drought.

If it weren’t for water management, the Central Valley would have pretty much stayed arid, almost desert like.

It’s returning to its natural state as the water once used to grow crops is now being diverted to preserve a non-indigenous minnow and to satiate the water demands of the coastal elite.

“From California .... climate victim ? “

It’s not due to climate. It’s due to the environmental extremists who have managed to cut off water to the farmers in the Central Valley.

CO² is .04% of our atmosphere, are we going to double it to .08%; would that even matter?

Lock the climate change fanatics up for inciting riots and falsifying records. That bunch is mentally ill and not telling the truth. A scientist this week said there is no such thing as climate change, and he won a Nobel Prize for science.

This is just like the so called professionals who get bribes to support some attorney in court, so they can win a case. Also the Climate Change people get huge grants of taxpayer dollars to spew this stuff...it’s all about saving the financial gravy train.

Well, let’s keep track of this list, because:
1. Climate is NOT changing.
2. Harvests will reflect typical cycles.
3. IF there were any “warming” these crops are most likely to THRIVE, as frost and cooler weather tend to have a more negative impact on these crops.
4. This may be an attempt to assert “Man made Climate Change” impact, when the cooling sets in.

Ethanol subsidizes cheap protein.

Does the world really need more of the starch and sugar that make ethanol?

“Seafood”? Really? We’re about to lose seafood? What, are the oceans going to boil off? It’s good to know so I can snag some poached salmon on that Alaska glacier cruise...

Corn

Corn is a near tropical plant, first developed in southern Mexico. Now it is grown all the way north into southern Canada. Raising the temperature a fraction of a degree will only increase the land area available to farm corn.

Global corn production, in particular, has already been nearly 4% lower than it would have been if the climate were not warming.

The climate has not warmed in 18 years. And it is no coincidence that they rely on theoretical results. Because in reality, corn is having record crops worldwide this year. to the point that there isn't enough storage facilities that can handle the yield. The only crops damage that I have read about is from early snows.

There are farmers who do keep portions of their acreage in maple trees and who tap them every year. Some have permanent lines attached for collecting the sap at centralized tanks. I guess you could call that a crop.
