The October surprises just keep on coming, courtesy of President Obama. According to The Weekly Standard, “during a speech in Rhode Island today, President Obama called for more taxpayer-spending on pre-school in order to “make sure that women are full and equal participants in our economy.”
I can respect that. But then the President followed those remarks by saying (emphasis added):
And sometimes someone, usually mom, leaves the workplace to stay at home with the kids, which then leaves her earning a lower wage for the rest of her life as a result. That’s not a choice we want Americans to make.
Um, ok. I’m interpreting his remarks to mean that women shouldn’t have to choose between lower wages or being stay at home mothers. Sounds noble, but it’s not realistic, at least not in most cases.
Condescension aside, aggravating is the constant drum beat of the modern “feminist” lie that women can have it all. It’s simply not true. Those with successful careers and families are routinely put in a place of choosing one or the other. Men with families also find themselves in the same dilemma, yet no one wants to talk about their struggles, because “feminism.”
Beyond perpetuating modern “feminist” myths is an even nastier issue with the President’s poorly worded statements: are we really in a place culturally where it’s acceptable to demonize a woman’s choice to stay at home as, “not a choice we want Americans to make”? Evidently so.
Of course, being a stay-at-home mom is not the right decision for every woman or for every family; but the blatant labeling of that choice as somehow inferior or “lesser” is just the latest statist assault on the family unit.

What an asswipe this idiot ‘president’ is. IF you have a technical degree or a medical degree (RN or Md) then taking time off doesn’t hurt you at all. IF you chose to go back into the work force you will be paid very well.
The most enjoyable time of my life where I did my most important work was in raising our child. I would do it all over again exactly the same way.
I do not want ANYONE else ,let alone the government, molding my child.

One’s precious children should not be give to others to raise. It is the parents who have the child’s best interests at heart.

How ironic that a leftist like Obama sees women as valuable only when they choose to be a cog in the economic machinery. Or maybe it’s not ironic at all, since only conservatism can be expected to grasp the transcendent value of motherhood. As always the depth and subtlety of actual reality escapes the left. Women have supreme importance in their role as mothers but the left is blind to anything outside the narrow limits of their ideology.

In my limited experience, a vast majority vote like feminists, and when they encounter issues in the workplace, they whine like them as well.

Easy; there weren’t enough voters who were stay-at-home mothers.
In Germany working mothers are not respected; it is expected a mother would raise her children. Guess they don’t think “it takes a village”; no wonder Germany is the engine of Europe...

But I do agree with you that our government has been busy selling this idea for many years.
It's apparent “they” see little reason to support or celebrate traditional family structures and values.
How else could they grow their “business growth model” if they couldn't hire more DCF and government union teachers?
