This is one of the most appalling threads I’ve ever seen on FR.

Agreed. Very disheartening.

Great. As for me, my plan at the moment is to take every breath to which I am entitled.

Not to say something might make me want to change my mind in the future.

Bottom line, its my business.

Though I bristle at the term "assisted suicide" because if it is assisted it is not suicide. Owl talk, I can't deny it but dang it Bobby, words mean things.

Christ died without dignity. Why should I feel I deserve any more?

One of the best comments on this matter that I've seen. Thank you.

I agree.

Actually this is THE most appalling and disheartening threads I have ever seen on FReeRepublic.
I ignorantly gave too much credit to the majority of people here.

The only thing keeping me from walking away are the Christian responses.

My internal scripture when I am in pain:
Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

If her family supported her, she could have had a couple of more months to live. But never mind. They prefer to bask in the positive approval of the press than do real things to help her die peacefully with hospice.

Her mother told her that it would be her privilege to care for her, but she refused.

My grandmother had cancer which spread to her liver and bones. Family members begged her to fight, but at one point, she quit and asked for pain relief.

But there was no relief, and she died painfully.

Less than two years later, her daughter, my aunt, would die the same way: skeletal, after weeks of pain no one could control.

It was horrifying to watch. Doctors are scared to prescribe too many pain meds. Part of the War on Drugs has been a tightening of what and how much doctors prescribe.

I would never want to die before God willed it, but I do understand this. Could never approve, but I really do understand.

The government needs to make it easier for patients in pain to receive relief.

I would choose to tough it out, even though I know what that means, because I know that is what God wants, and because I know that suffering has a purpose.

I would beg family members not to take that route, but would understand it.

Again, though, pain medicine is often not given in ways that really help the patient, and I can see that fact affecting patient decisions.

There is so much room for improvement.

Wow. Something to think about. Thank you. I pray more people could understand suffering, while also praying that fewer people suffer.

I guess she forgot to inform Dr Kevorkian

He predeceased her.

My dad died in the 1960s after 2 1/2 years at age 40 after suffering from cancer of the lymph glands. He went from a strapping 220 lbs to about 85 (he was 6’3”), and when he came home for brief stays from the hospital, he was in such extreme agony I remember seeing tears in the man’s eyes during the day and hearing him wail at night from the pain.

The “purpose” of his suffering I have yet to see. Brittany was also given a death sentence. God’s plan includes the cessation of her earthly existence. Rather than in vain with cancer treatments that would accomplish nothing but prolong the agony, she acted within the constraints of that plan.

This is a case of an easy case making bad law. IMO her case is at the top of the slippery slope to euthanasia. Saving money will be the motivating factor under Obamacare. There is no doubt that the corruption of culture contributes to the devaluation of life and the corrupters will use cases like this to promote death. Look for the book, then the movie, then the “thoughtful” reality TV show.

When I had cancer, my family was there for me. Not one of them ever pushed me to kill myself. Fighting cancer is difficult enough, without your own family wishing you dead.

She was young and good looking so she got a lot of coverage. Plus that she just got married prior to the cancer diagnosis.

If some beer drinking slob with terminal cancer proclaims he is going to kill himself there will be little fuss.

My thoughts exactly. She was rather shallow and liberal to the end. May God be merciful to her.

They already have their movie. They released it in 1941, and called it Ich klage an.

You are the ones trying to force your belief system on others, at least with respect to someone’s right to end his/her own life. I think we can agree that Christianity is under attack from all angles lately. I’ve been defending the rights of Christians to worship as they believe, say “Merry Christmas,” and on and on. I just don’t agree on this issue, and it’s wrong to decide this for everyone based on YOUR personal beliefs.

No, you’re not talking about killing yourself. You’re talking about corrupting our medical system and all of society by demanding participation in murder. You’re pushing others toward suicide. You’re demanding a platform to promote your immoral viewpoint, while at the same time demanding that Bible believing Christians be silenced. You’re used to getting your way in that, but it’s changing. Christians are standing up to you, and will do so, more and more. Get used to that.
