Police Chief Accuses Secret Service Of Misconduct (Nashville, TN)

Nashville's police chief is raising stunning new allegations regarding the U.S. Secret Service, saying local agents once asked his officers to fake a warrant.

Even more disturbing, Chief Steve Anderson said he complained to top Secret Service officials in Washington, and they did not seem to care.

(snip)

In the Nashville case, a Secret Service agent made a frantic call for backup to Nashville police after he and another agent went to the home of a Nashville man, investigating threatening comments on Facebook about the President. The man who posted them had refused to let the agents into his house.

(snip)

In a letter that he first sent to Secret Service headquarters, the Nashville police chief recounted what happened.

"The resident refused to come outside and shouted back, 'Show me your warrant,'" Anderson wrote.

So "one of the agents then asked a [police] sergeant to 'wave a piece of paper' in an apparent effort to dupe the resident into thinking that they indeed had a warrant."

(snip)

That's when Anderson demanded a meeting with bosses inside the Secret Service's Nashville office.

He recalled asking, "Do you think it is appropriate to wave a piece of paper in the air and tell him you have a warrant when you do not have a warrant?"

"Answer: 'I don't know. I'm not a lawyer.'"

Late Monday afternoon, the Secret Service issued the following statement:

The Secret Service values our relationship with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The January 2013 incident described by Chief Anderson was addressed by supervisors in the Secret Service Nashville Field Office. In addition, Deputy Director A.T. Smith called Chief Anderson at the time of his letter to our agency to express his regret at the way this incident was handled by field office personnel.

We encourage Chief Anderson to continue to work with the Special Agent in Charge of the Nashville Secret Service field office, who is his appropriate contact on matters of mutual concern.

And apparently cooperation only works one way now with the Secret Service.

Now that’s bad when you are so corrupt and crooked you offend the local police. I dare say this is more a territory dispute than anything.

Don't think so...I think that the Secret Service has come to believe, like most other federal agencies, that the Constitution and the law do not apply to it.

In fact, the heavy handed treatment demonstrated here by the Secret Service toward the Nashville Sheriff's office is somewhat unusual, since federal LEOs typically send out only a couple of field agents top make "contact" with whoever they are investigating, and then rely upon local police to supply the necessary muscle, in the name of "cooperation."

By throwing down on the Nashville Sheriff's Office, the arrogant Secret Service has now jeopardized that relationship, and will likely be on their own in the field if they don't clean up their act soon.

And believe me, the sheriffs and local LEOs do talk to each other throughout the country, and so local-federal "cooperation" at large will be endangered too.

I recall Mark Wahlberg’s character in “The Departed”. He was a Boston police Lt. who told his men, “My philosophy regarding the feds is you treat them like mushrooms - feed em sh*t and keep them in the dark.

The Secret Service, FBI, and all other federal law enforcement agencies were corrupted under Clinton and damn-near ruined under Obama.

We need citizen review boards in all 435 Congressional districts to review the actions of any federal agent (and federal agency) with law enforcement powers, of which there are a great many......FBI, SS, BLM, DEA, BATF, EPA, IRS, Homeland Security, etc., etc.

I disagree. Anderson is an “up through the ranks Chief” not a politician like most Police Chiefs. He knows bad cops hurt good cops. He is providing good leadership and morale.

Well at least it is nice to know that in Nashville, Conspiracy to commit armed robbery and kidnapping are LEGAL. Because that is exactly what the SS Agent did.

He is providing good leadership and morale.

If that was true, he would of already ARRESTED the SS Agent for Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery and Kidnapping.

Sheriff Joe of Maricopa County AZ would have arrested the SS agents.

This entire incident surrounds another very frightening development and that is federal agents harassing citizens for comments made on Facebook that offend the Kenyan.

Other articles reference Vets being locked up in mental institutions without hearings, because of Facebook posting offensive to “The One.”

This assault on our First Amendment rights is very disquieting and serious intervention needs to be done immediately before this practice gets entirely out of control.

Given that facebook is used to feed the Feds information on everyone, why do people still post on facebook? They are building a file on everyone on facebook.

This story is originally from October 14th. There was little if ANY coverage locally and NONE that I know of nationally.

Can anyone else verify that?

I dare say this is more a territory dispute than anything.....I sincerely doubt that. The SS wanted a piece of paper waved in order to gain entrance. If something, anything was found, the warrant would have been required in Court. Where is it? Don’t have one. Case thrown out, civil suit and city will pay. SS would not be implicated, because THEY didn’t wave a piece of paper. Cops were very prescient.

OK, it’s a relative thing. The previous Chief would have sent some SWAT boys out there who probably would have killed the guy and that Chief would have loved getting himself on TV over it all. Things roll downhill. A bad Chief encourages bad cops. A good Chief does just the opposite.
