I thought the constitution requires federal elections on the first Tuesday of November. The founders did not select Saturday’s for elections because that would interfere with market day. Sunday was not chosen because that is Sabbath day. At that time many people had to travel to the county seat to vote. Monday was not chosen for election day because the founders wanted to allow people one day to travel to the county seat, so Tuesday was chosen.

Repeal withholding tax, make everybody pay their full tax April 15, and make April 16 Election Day.

National Holiday????

Voters have over a month to vote. Stop that one in its tracks.

We already have people voting weeks early, same day registration, etc.

People didn’t vote for democrats because the democrats have screwed up the country and people are tired of their constant lies and deception.

I have always said that democrats should never be running anything. They are only good at pissing, moaning and hatin’ the other guys.

I have voted in every election since 1976. I’ve never understood why getting to the polling place on election day was such a burden. I always managed to find some time to get there during the twelve hours the polls were opened. I’ve lived in cities, so the polling places have never been more than a couple minutes’ walk from my house. They have done everything possible (outside of Sanders’ proposal and internet voting) to make it easier for people to vote. Still, lots of people can’t manage to get off their duffs and exercise their right. By my way of thinking, people who don’t care enough to take advantage of the accomodations that are already there shouldn’t be voting anyway.

Not such a bad idea. But be sure it’s the ONLY voting day. No early voting, absentee for true hardship only.

File an amendment.

Change it to a Saturday, allow early voting for a small period prior to the election, and remove absentee ballot except for instances of military service or disability.

Working taxpayers will find the day change more convenient for their modern schedule much like the founders did when they set the day. Early voting for those with pressing business that weekend and absentee ballots for those who simply can’t come in. Early voting and absentee shouldn’t be used as a crutch to entertain slacking voters.

The founders wanted voting to be convenient for the landowners who had businesses to run and farms to keep. They figured that if it mattered enough to them they’d try and make an effort to vote when time came around.

We shouldn’t have a government that bends over backwards to secure the consent of the disinterested or apathetic.

What’s next?

Handing out lollipops?

Or maybe a free bag of dope or a $50 EBT card as an incentive to vote?

I really don’t want to see any more changes, programs, or incentives to bring in more Low-Info voters.

If people aren’t interested enough to inform themselves and make an effort to vote without incentives, paid holidays, or other government coercion it is better for the nation if they don’t vote.

“I OPPOSE efforts to expand the number of people voting. Voting should require a bit of effort.”

EXACTLY! This election was won by those people ( by and large ) who thought about the issues and made the effort to vote. The 67% that didn’t vote quite likely included the 47% who are on public assistance of some kind. As such, they should not be allowed to vote because they vote in their own self-interest rather than for the good of the country.

No. No no no.

Everybody votes on election day. One time. Absentee ballots only for real cases of need. Purple fingers. Closed primaries.

I think dipping our fingers in purple ink would be fantastic. Real easy to keep people from voting twice.

Make it a two day holiday and make them dip their fingers.

Democrats would never win another national election again. How do you dip a corpses finger in ink?

Everyone should know that Bernie is a “carpetbagger.” He was born in Brooklyn, NY. He headed north rather than west, like his “Brooklyn Sibling” Babs Boxer. She made it all the way to Marin County, CA! both are Capo Marxists.

I would agree wholeheartedly with this proposal IF and only IF election day Tuesday was the ONLY day you could vote (except for absentee ballots). No voting for weeks before the election. No mass mailing of ballots (like CO).

You vote ONLY two ways: By absentee ballot which you have to legally obtain and submit or by showing up at your polling place on election day Tuesday.

How about a bill moving Election Day to April 15th?

Here, Here!

I don’t agree. Some of us work jobs that do not leave us available to vote that day, sometimes without any prior notice, sometimes with lots of planning and still no way to be there.

Just because someone works on a offshore platform or is called to perform emergency surgery, is no reason for them to lose their right to vote.

I’ve had to work out of town for months at a time, with only 2 days warning. Some careers have greater time commitments than the office 9-5.
