Barney, Frank: Admits Key Obamacare Clause Before Supreme Court Was 'Mistake'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 11/08/2014 7:54:37 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Barney Frank lived up to his last name, and might live to regret it in Dem circles. Appearing on this morning's Up with Steve Kornacki, Frank admitted that the key Obamacare clause that the Supreme Court just agreed to consider was a "mistake." The clause on its face limits Obamacare subsidies to people obtaining coverage through state exchanges. Only 14 states set up exchanges, yet the Obama admin has been granting subsidies to millions of people who got their policies through federal marketplace instead. If SCOTUS enforces the literal language of the law, it could well deal a death blow to Obamacare. Will Cain of The Blaze was quick to highlight Barney's major admission, much to the displeasure of the surly former congressman from Massachusetts.

Barney Frank is a mistake.

The part of the law in question was intended by the Demo/Commies to coerce states into building exchanges. It was no mistake and it was no accident.

Frank is lying. But that’s just what Demo/Commies do.

I wonder how his buddy’s gay whorehouse is doing these days.

Can’t wait for the hue and cry when they have to claw back the subsidies already given.

Should be fun.

Exactly. Frank is setting the table for the media to characterize this as a typo....already we’re being led to believe its one solitary clause. It is in there multiple times and the mechanics of the subsidy is but around the intent to force exchanges on the states. They never dreamed so many gop governors wod resist.

Just wait until a bit after the decision that the subsidies are illegal. Everyone will be getting a bill for full payment of their coverage retroactive to day one. Tens of thousands of dollars charge to the poorest of Americans and lowest middle class that can never, ever pay that bill.

“mistake” implies they meant to put it there, doesn’t it? Speaks to intention.

I say the geniuses wrote the law just how they wanted it enforced.

So screw ‘em: the subsidies are illegal.

Kill the demonstrably terrible legislation. Yesterday.

One of the key architects of of Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber, has explained that they specifically wanted subsidies available only to the state-established exchanges - to provide a strong carrot and stick to Governors and State legislatures to “play ball” with the Federal Government. They simply did NOT expect 36 States to turn down free Fed money.

Not so much coerce as bribe, but you are right on the money, the choice of language was deliberate, and it was done that way to avoid a direct challenge that the feds were acting outside a power granted by the constitution. Where in the constitution do you find a power for the feds to create insurance exchanges?

Do you suppose we could start by just ignoring him and not posting his crap here? He’s no longer in government, who cares what he says or thinks?
