David Cameron has said he hopes to see a British Asian become prime minister in his lifetime.
Speaking at the GG2 awards, which celebrates Asian achievements, he added that there were "too few people from ethnic minorities in top positions".

He added: "When I hear those terms Your Honour, Brigadier General, Right Honourable, more often I want to hear it followed by a British-Asian name.
"And yes, one day I want to hear that title prime minister, followed by a British-Asian name."

This is the usual “conservative” PC. However, I wouldn’t mind if a Christian Indian or even a moderate Hindu Indian got into a position of importance.
The only thing they’ve got to keep in mind: NO MUSLIMS, whether “Asian” (which to the Brits means Southeast Asia, such as India or Pakistan) or domestic converts.
And if they don’t they are sexist and racist.
Did he leave out the blacks, who came from the West Indies? What about them. I’d sooner have one of them in leadership than a Muslim Asian.
I’m sure that’s who Cameron was talking about. /s
David Cameron is a twit.
Why are people assuming Asian equals Islam?. The UK has several million Brits of Sikh, Hindu descent, as well as those of other Asian lineage: HK Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese etc.
You are correct. I was thinking of James Cameron, filmmaker of Avatar ( a film I walked out on after 20 minutes of yawning).
Barring a wipeout by Nigel Farage, his dream of caliphate may be realized.
In the United States, the most common use of the word refers to people originating from East and Southeast Asia (China, Japan, South/North Korea, Vietnam, among others). Indians and Pakistanis might be referred to as South Asians, where as Filipinos and Samoans might be called Pacific Islanders.
In England, “asian” most commonly refers to people of Indian or Pakistani descent, whereas “oriental” might refer to East and Southeast Asians (NOTE: “oriental” is certainly considered politically incorrect in the United States).

The GG2 awards celebrate achievement by British people of all Asian backgrounds.

I looked for the satire tag and did not find it.
Not necessarily Muslim, but from India/Pakistan, not the far east. See my post a few down.
Nope. In the British media, “Asian” translates as “Muslim rapist we don’t want to identify as Muslim”. Its all explained in “Orwell’s companion guide to a modern mind control hell”
No, he is referring to all British Asians, Sikhs and Hindus as well as Muslims. Who have been here since the late 1940’s. And who for several decades were by far the most visible of the British Asian immigrants. And still are hugely visible.
People here are wrongly reading too much into his comments.
As an actual Briton (not England, please get it right), I know what we refer to. And the Asian British community contains as many Sikhs and Hindus as Muslims.
Good God, the man hasn’t noticed our nation in going on six years?
There seems to have not been a British PM since Thatcher anyway.
