In the article "An HIV-1 Transmission Case Possibly Associated with Manicure Care," Elaine Monteiro Matsuda and coauthors from Santo André AIDS Program, Adolfo Lutz Institute, and University of São Paulo, Brazil, describe the case of a 22-year-old woman who had advanced HIV infection but no apparent risk factors for acquiring HIV. She reported having shared manicure instruments years before with a cousin who was later found to be HIV-positive. Genetic analysis of the viruses from both patients suggests that they shared a common viral ancestor, indicating the possibility that HIV was transmitted via the manicure instruments.

CDC Director Friedan would say “just wash your hands.”
I’m just working through a cuticle infection from a pedicure. I’m considering the infection to be caused by damage to the cuticle(over exertion by the “technician”) but, it appears to have traveled to my toe-joint.
Just some “ouch” right now....
Most likely by hair cutting equipment as well...
Hey you can get it from a dentist why not a manicurist.
Cynical people might say this (unfairly) maybe she and her cousin shared more that a manicure and she just does not want anybody to know more.Yes very unfair comment but I bet some might suggest it.
I would not be so sure that a person could not get HIV from a toilet seat
Put some tea tree oil on it. Will be better in a day.
Well I still say you can get it from mosquitoes. Chances are slim, but if they’re buzzing around from person to person, why is this impossible?
If you have an infection that has entered a joint, thats something that needs treatment right away.
You can get HIV from a toilet seat - if you sit down before the other person stands up.
If you visit the manicurist or pedicurist you should consider buying your own set and bring it with you.
LOL, thanks for that clarification. ;-)
I heard you can get Pregnant
Clever!
If it’s in your joint, it’s much more than “ouch”. Get it looked at asap.
OK, but if someone with aids with a open cut or bleeding from rectum, and you sit down with a open cut, not that much of a stretch, and what about at a picnic with mosquitos biting one from another.
Ask the Dr`s that dress in full plastic gowns when operating on a hiv + person
I don’t know if any still do, but a lot of barbers quit offering shaves because of the risk that the razor could spread HIV.
I have never had a public mani/pedi. Seems too unsanitary.
Me neither. One, it does seem icky. Two, why waste the time and money on something I can do myself in 10 minutes in the privacy of my own home, piled on the comfy couch and watching tv.
“I dont know if any still do, but a lot of barbers quit offering shaves because of the risk that the razor could spread HIV.”
Well, they sure quit giving them to me...
