Mary Landrieu’s Tall Task in the Louisiana Runoff
Roll Call Politics ^ | November 11, 2014 | Rothenberg

Posted on 11/11/2014 2:38:43 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary L. Landrieu has already made it quite clear that she isn’t going to go quietly in her bid to win a fourth term in next month’s Dec. 6 runoff.

Her effort to brand Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy as “nearly incoherent” ranks up there with Kentucky Democrat Dan Mongiardo’s effort to label Republican Sen. Jim Bunning as not entirely in control of his senses during that state’s 2004 Senate race. (Bunning, who started the race as an overwhelming favorite, was re-elected by only 22,000 votes, a margin of fewer than 2 points.)

This is the ultimate example of trying to “localize” a race, of trying to get voters to focus on the two candidates and forget everything else.

Landrieu doesn’t explain the source of her opponent’s alleged incoherence. But to her campaign, it doesn’t matter whether voters think that Cassidy might have an alcohol or pharmacological problem, or whether they think that he is merely “not quite right.”

All that matters is that they decide to cast their ballot by comparing the runoff candidates, rather than wanting to make a larger statement about President Barack Obama, as many voters in red states did earlier this month.

Given the extent to which she will go to hang onto her Senate seat, I wouldn’t underestimate Landrieu. She is, after all, a skilled veteran campaigner who finished well under 50 percent in November of 2002 but came back to defeat Republican Suzanne Haik Terrell in the state’s Dec. 7 runoff.

But that was a dozen years ago, and the context of this year’s runoff is nothing like what it was in 2002. Landrieu probably still needs Cassidy to make a big mistake to win — something not unheard of from Republican Senate candidates in recent cycles.

I just wish that Virginia had a runoff so we could clear the air of the 2% clown Robert Starveus and most likely get shed of mock warna. Ed. Gillespie should be our Senator. Shezzz.

Mary Landrieu has nothing to run on and nothing to lose by going negative. She believes she is "entitled" to a Senate seat because of her family history.

This will get very ugly over the next month as this female mother canine attempts to hang onto power and the loot that comes with it.

I was thinking the revelation from Jonathan Gruber did not sit well with Mary considering she was bribed for her vote. But we’re too stupid, right Mary?

We’re now going to see this all the way until 6 Dec. Landrieu is like a cornered, wounded animal for whom survival is the only objective. She will tell any lie, pull any string, call in any favor to remain in the Senate.

“But I must ask since it is somewhat implied...does Mr. Cassidy have an issue with alcohol or pharmaceuticals?? Anyone on the ground in LA heard this?”

I’m not in the Bayou State, but I suspect Miss Piggy is leaving it wide open to the imagination of low/no information voters. Perhaps she is hoping they will think Cassidy is a thespian, or matriculated while in college.

Democrats can make all the big mistakes they like, they know the media has their back.

Have ya all noticed, there has not been “one” political poll concerning the senate race between Landrieu and Cassidy. That’s odd, since there were every day polls during the regular campaign....all of them biased and way off base. We are now one fourth of the way to the “special election day”, run-off in Louisiana...and not a poll number in sight!!! Strange......or, maybe is just the Obamabot, Democrat way of keeping bad news from the idiots that will vote for Mary Landrieu.

Getting serious.....I strongly urge Mr. Cassidy, his supporters, and the entire Republican/Conervative/independent political structure in Louisiana not to let up one iota from getting out every vote they possible can, on election day, December 6, 2014, not just to defeat Mary Landrieu, but to, slaughter her politically beyond competitive recognition!!! And, any Democrat voting for Ms. Landrieu needs their head examined....because with the Republicans in total control of the senate, she will not have one ounce of influence with anyone in Washington, DC!!! She has been rendered uselful by the voters of Louisiana!!! End of story!!!

Fox showed a video of the event at which Cassidy was supposedly incoherent. He was speaking at some public event several months ago and apparently lost his train of thought for a few seconds. As Cassidy himself said (he was being interviewed by Megan Kelly on Fox) they took a two-second clip out of a 15-minute speech.

I don’t think there is anybody who, at some point, doesn’t stumbles over something. If we were to adopt a standard of stumbling speech, however, we should meter the stumbles and, so, compare the rate of stumbling of different people.

For Mary Landrieu to say that an obviously intelligent person isn’t intelligent because of an occasional stumble merely reveals that she is an ignorant buffoon, and desperate, and it doesn’t change the fact that she looks like the second coming of Miss Piggy.

If you look at pictures of her 20 years ago, she was actually quite the hottie.

OK, that comment is totally irrelevent to this thread. I’m just saying, that’s all...
