St. Louis police buy $100,000 in riot gear, citizens buy guns ahead of Ferguson decision (+video)

St. Louis — St. Louis County police said they have spent around $100,000 stocking up on riot gear and other items they may need if protests turn violent after prosecutors announce whether a Ferguson officer will face criminal charges in the shooting death of Michael Brown. And CNN reports that citizens are also preparing for the grand jury ruling: gun sales are up in St. Louis.

A state grand jury has been meeting since shortly after Brown, who was 18 and black, was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, on Aug. 9. Brown was unarmed and some witnesses said he was trying to surrender. Wilson's attorneys have repeatedly declined comment.

St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch has said the grand jury decision is expected in mid- to late November. His spokesman, Ed Magee, said Monday that the decision will come no earlier than Saturday, but the exact date is not yet known. McCulloch is urging people to ignore what he calls "rank speculation" in social media about the grand jury.

I guess we know what the verdict is going to be.

I think they mean "when" protests turn violent, not if.

We lived in Fergusonfor a brief time, and we are happy we aren’t anywhere close to St, Louis now. It used to be a nice pace but obviously it has deteriorated.

The tension has been ramped up to such a degree, that if there are going to be riots,( and I’m starting to think there will not be in any substantial or sustained sense)
it will happen without regard to whether or not Officer Daryl is indicted. There are dozens of examples of cities going ablaze because their city won some sports championship. These are the winners, acting like angry losers.

I tend to think the majority of citizens in Fergusson want their basic routine back, and are tired of ‘living under seige in Iraq’. There will be all manner of astroturf phony fakes bussed in flown in, thrown in for the purposes of destruction. Oakland Ca. went through that with Occupy/ Annoymous some years back.

Brown was unarmed

Just like Ray Rice in the elevator was unarmed

** Note to Big Media - "unarmed" does not imply "innocent" **

There are dozens of examples of cities going ablaze because their city won some sports championship.

Wrong.

Cities have not gone ablaze over sports events. Yeah, there have been issues involving several blocks etc..Minor BS mostly.

If ya want to see what real full blown riot is, where dozens of people were laid to waste, with widespread total destruction, read about '92 LA riots. Unfortunately, I was there.

IMO, this won't even be a blip in comparison.

Brown, who was 18 and black, was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson, who is white

How about " Brown, who was 300 pounds, under the influence of illegal drugs and had just committed a robbery, was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson, who was doing his job and feared for his life.

BTW, lots of people talk big talk about how big and bad they are. But actually being in an region like I mentioned above, it’s a whole different story.

Ferguson nor St. Louis will come close.

There may be a trigger event in the future, but this won’t be it.

“Brown who was unarmed because his attempt to steal officer Wilson’s gun after assaulting him had failed.”

I guess that works, but we should find a way to mention that he was a teen.

Is it possible Ferguson has a simple one frequency unscrambled police dispatch? 155.010?

I take it you are there. How do they communicate car to car there?
