I’ve been screaming for years: “media” is an exceedingly imprecise term. Granted that fiction movies and TV have had strong tendencies toward the Grubercrats, fiction is fiction - you can’t take fiction on piecemeal, and if you do you must take on all fiction. Way too hard, way too broad a target.

We have to call out the “domestic enemy,” as you put it, explicitly by its actual name, wire service journalism. When journalists are “associated,” you can’t expect them to be independent of each other. But all the biggies belong to the Associated Press.

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies; much less to render them necessary. - Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations
