Gov. Cuomo critical of National Weather Service, says New York building its own forecasting system
WKBW-TV ABC News ^ | 11:16 AM, Nov 23, 2014 | Gov. Cuomo critical of National Weather Service, says New York building its own forecasting system

Posted on 11/23/2014 9:56:58 AM PST by mikrofon

Gov. Cuomo expressed criticism for the National Weather Service and its forecast of the storm that ravaged the region in a news conference late Saturday.

Cuomo said the NWS didn't indicate that the heavy snow bands would remain stationary and blast South Buffalo and the Southtowns with unprecedented snowfall.

Cuomo indicated that's a big reason why New York is building its own weather forecasting system, that he states will be superior to any other state system in the country.

"No one had an idea that it was gonna be that much snow that fast. Snow coming down at the rate of about five inches an hour, Cuomo said.

Though Cuomo is critical of the NWS coverage of this particular storm, New York's weather forecasting system had been planned since at least last year.

Doesn’t matter. New York and all of its inhabitants will be long gone when the next ice age comes along, and scrapes all of their existence off the face of the earth with a mile high bulldozer of glacial ice.

It has happened before, and we’re past due for the next one.

Yeah lake effect is pretty changeable based on my years of experience in Cleveland.

“Cuomo indicated that’s a big reason why New York is building its own weather forecasting system”

Another big reason is that cuomo has friends in the weather forecasting business to whom he wishes to give taxpayer money.

“that he states will be superior to any other state system in the country”

New York State government hasnt built anything that was superior to anything else in the country. The only thing new york has that is superior in the country is our pizza. And government has nothing to do with that.

Now the people of New York can blame the governor when the weather gets bad - as he is tap dancing with Mother Nature.

I hear you, Governor...just this day; the weatherman in southern Red Hampshire forecast a high of 49, but it is already up to 56! I had to change into a lighter jacket to finish cleaning my garden.

If he just gave Karl Rove a call, I’m sure Karl would have let him borrow the Katrina Weather Machine.

Despite being infested by Globalarmists like every other governmental agency, I think NOAA/NWS is more than sufficient for what it’s supposed to do…

As many others have stated, competition in this regard should be coming from private concerns, many of which currently provide a more accurate picture of what’s going on (since their science is not “settled”.)

Rudy Giuliani walked the whole country through 911. Cuomo can’t even hold a press conference without sounding like he’s on drugs as a governor, blaming the weather on someone.

The NWS knows that have a problem and are working on it. The main problem is that there is not enough computing power in their supercomputer to look further than 3 days in the future and some built-in biases are hard-coded to reduce processing time. That is why the Euro model kicks the GFS(NWS Model) snowstorm after snowstorm here on the East Coast. This is one of the reasons Sandy was so bad, most local news stations use the GFS model and it completely missed the forecast until right before it happened, while the Euro had been screaming for 2 weeks about that storm track.

Back to the here and now, last year the NWS got funding to build a new supercomputer and are in process of putting it online. I don’t think it is fully operational yet, but some data is coming out for this winter’s storms.

“Now the people of New York can blame the governor when the weather gets bad - as he is tap dancing with Mother Nature.”

He could get around it by passing legislation that limits snowfall to 7 inches.

A fool, yes but a damned fool for sure. Cuomo’s only goal here is to create another state agency that he can appoint his cronies to and give them a big salary.
Fool? No, more like a BIG A$$#ole!

Guess they should listen and watch Fox 8 News out of Cleveland, Ohio. Andre Bernier and Dick Goddard are the only guys around with the experience to predict ‘lake effect’ snow beyond the .....’expect significant accumulation.’

The man is a raging idiot.

This same stupid son of a bitch got up in front of a bunch of reporters the other day and ranted that all of the people who were stuck in their cars on the Thruway would be ticketed once this was over. (I wonder if he meant the ones that died there, too?)

Hey stupid little Andy: The Thruway is a STATE run road that is a TOLL road. Nobody could get on it if you didn’t let them through the toll gates!

Having your own weather service won’t do anything to protect you from doing and saying stupid things like this again because:

Andy boy, you are a raging idiot.

Maybe he has it on good authority that Bathhouse Barry is planning on writing an executive order.
