After unilaterally granting temporary amnesty and work permits to millions of illegal immigrants last week, President Barack Obama said it would not be legitimate for a future president to unilaterally lower tax rates.

When asked on ABC's This Week if his successor could unilaterally act to lower taxes if Congress does not, Obama replied, "absolutely not."

I’m still hoping to outlive Clinton so I can take a trip to Arkansas and urinate on his grave.

I bet he even said, ‘because I say so‘ but his adoring media left that part out.

If a Republican referred to millions of immigrants as people “mowing lawns or cleaning out bedpans” the media would crucify them. Why is it acceptable for liberals to demean immigrants?

Not upholding tax laws is “different” than not upholding immigration laws?

Really?

Depends on the meaning of "IS" I guess.

Sadly, because liberals for the most part determine what becomes “a story worthy of Outrage”.

A President could, via Executive Order, eliminate withholding.

A miracle wish if it were possible. Withholding in my opinion is the unconstitutional part of the tax issue.

I find that citizens of a sovereign state being forced to send their money earned inside the borders of said state using the states infrastructure, and business climate completely and utterly unconstitutional.

Those funds must pass through the states revenue department and allow the state to extract what is necessary to fund state government first, before said funds are allowed to go to the federal coffers.

Rather than futilely DEBATING this point among us nerds, perhaps a candidate, maybe Cruz, or even Huckabee should simply RUN on a platform of being a DICTATOR, by saying that he will ONLY enforce the laws he chooses, and to start with, there simply will not ANY enforcement of Capital Gains Taxes, nor the Self-Employment Tax (which would bring Social Security to its knees in a decade), nor environmental laws. No need to work with Congress, no begging, no arm-twisting, EVERYTHING by Executive Order.

...and then watch the media go NUTS trying to say that would be illegal.

I think the first thing any Republican President should do would sign an EO directing the IRS from enforcing the non compliance tax on Obamacare. Folks would no longer be taxed for not signing up.

I'd prefer to be one of the lucky few who get to apply the tar, or feathers...

They have let the genie out of the bottle, destroying the filibuster and enforcing the laws to suit their political objectives.

There’s no way they can ever afford to allow a republican to be president again.

Situational ethics.

Nobody's discussed this concept for a while, but it explains everything. If an action furthers your agenda, it's constitutional and "the right thing to do". A similar action which doesn't accomplish what you want is illegal, unconstitutional, immoral.

Obama's unilateral immigration giveaway increases the base of Democrat voters and creates a new class of second class dependents, along with the administrators to support them. Goes down good with the party line.

OTOH, cutting taxes helps to make wage-earners more independent. They might make their own decisions on where to spend their money, and they "might not spend it right". Government might have to learn to get by with less money, it might even have to shrink! IRS workers could lose their jobs here, this is serious!

Obama: Not Legitimate for Future Presidents to Lower Taxes via Executive Action...okay, well how 'bout voiding all gun control laws on the grounds that they hamper poor folks, who are disproportionately affected by violent crime, from protecting themselves - how would that fly?....

We cannot lower taxes, but the President can announce an amnesty to everyone who ‘forgets’ to pay their taxes.

I’d do it.

Maybe. Maybe not. Remember, barely a majority of people PAY income taxes now.
