“We’re not here to destroy or harm. That’s not what this is about,” said protester Kharyshi Wiginton, 39. “The war on black people is very real. It’s not made up. It’s not on some black people. It’s on all black people.”
The demonstration, like those earlier in the week, was in reaction to Monday’s grand jury decision not to indict white police Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
More than a dozen people chained themselves together and to BART cars, on both platforms of the West Oakland BART Station. BART officials halted all trains in and out of San Francisco between about 10:30 a.m. and noon, briefly stranding tens of thousands of people — many headed to malls on one of the busiest shopping days of the year or to airports to go home after Thanksgiving.
