Leading U.S. CEOs, angered by the Obama administration's challenge to certain "workplace wellness" programs, are threatening to side with anti-Obamacare forces unless the government backs off, according to people familiar with the matter.

Major U.S. corporations have broadly supported President Barack Obama's healthcare reform despite concerns over several of its elements, largely because it included provisions encouraging the wellness programs.

Typical Federal gov't the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Be interesting if the White House will slap down the EEOC lawsuit.

Interesting indeed, as the ADA is the law. Based on presentation of facts in this article, it seems like the EEOC is in the right here. Of course, King Obama can just use his pen/phone and change the law. Personally, I’d like to see both the ADA and Obamacare scrapped.

Are you kidding? There are lots of CEOs who kiss Obama’s backside. Immelt of GE is probably his #1 fan, especially given how much GE benefits from Government contracts. And lets not forget Warren “Rich people are under-taxed” Buffett.

Of course, that was when Obama was ascendant. His powers are waning, so yeah, a lot of these weasels might turn on him, especially if it impacts the bottom line. Without these wellness programs, their costs will skyrocket.

We have a wellness program where I work. It gives a discount on health insurance for people who try to stay healthy by not smoking, exercising and avoiding too many of the wrong foods.

In other word, people are incentivized to take responsibility for their own health.

Have these at my workplace (private employer) and at my wife’s (local gov’t). If you are un- healthy and don’t try to get healthier, you pay more. Guess why this doesn’t jive with O-care?

The CEOs of Walmart, Walgreen, Home Depot, UPS, Time Warner and IBM for a start. Walmart, Walgreen, and Home Depot have all announced that they dropping health plans for full and/or part time employees and will replace it with a subsidy and direct them to the insurance exchanges. UPS has said that it's dropping coverage for working spouses of employees since under Obamacare the spouse's company now has to offer medical insurance. IBM and Time Warner both announced they are ending insurance coverage for retirees and is instead offering a monthly payment and directing them to the health exchanges.

Uh...that would be all the guys with the BIG Gov’t contracts:

Lockheed, Boeing, Raytheon, etc.

You’d be amazed at the crap they’ve been bribed into supporting....

LGBT “role playing” by senior execs.....”to teach acceptance, diversity, and inclusion....”

Don’t ask what that means, as I will avoid learning details.

The Eeoc beats the ATF for anti-American desires and general stupidity.

I had one EEOC lady tell me I couldnt drug test or run criminal background checks because of disparate impact on blacks

On the face of it, this doesn’t seem like a bad idea. However...the EEOC/ADA angle mentioned in the article is an interesting one. It isn’t “voluntary” if not doing it penalizes you, is it? The rub here, will be is it a “bonus” or is it money earmarked for your medical account that you have to work for in order to get? Also...I have been blessed with good genes where (so far, knock on wood) I can pass those tests with little effort. But I knew someone who, due to their genetic heritage, could drink kelp juice and eat lettuce for months on end and STILL have high cholesterol, because their body manufactured it from nothing! So..is that person “disabled” and unable to pass this test from that disability?

The problem with that crap is when they see the open door and add...gun ownership, driving a car, any hobby more dangerous than checkers, any job that isn’t desk work, living in any non-guarded non-gated community, genetic testing, etc...

“.... “The fact that the EEOC sued is shocking to our members,” said Maria Ghazal, vice-president and counsel at the Business Roundtable, a group of chief executives of more than 200 large U.S. corporations. “They don’t understand why a plan in compliance with the ACA (Affordable Care Act) is the target of a lawsuit,” she said. “This is a major issue to our members.”

“There have been conversations at the most senior levels of the administration about this,” she added.

Business Roundtable members are due to meet Obama in a closed-door session on Tuesday, where they may air their concerns.

It is not clear how many members of the group, whose companies sponsor health insurance for 40 million people, are considering any action. It is also not clear if the White House can stop the EEOC from challenging wellness programs....”

Bump!

When cornered leaving his plush office, Herbert Mowen replied, "hey, I'm just trying to make a living. I appreciate everything President Obama and Wesley Mouch are doing for the business community."

Real life CEO's aren't going to upset the apple cart as long as the Fed keeps pumping up the stock market.

How it looked to the Wall Street Journal five years ago, leading up to the passage of ObamaCare:

CEOs and ObamaCare
An internal revolt at the Business Roundtable over support for ObamaCare

The article quotes Ivan Seidenberg, CEO of Verizon:

The problem with the health-care market in this country is that it doesn't really function as a market—leaving major consumer needs unmet, costs unchecked by competition, and basic practices untouched by the productivity revolution that has transformed every other sector of the economy.

However, it also notes that:

With only a few exceptions, drug makers and health-care providers have shown that their priority is rent-seeking from government, which means that any last-minute push back will have to come from the other six-sevenths of the economy.

The Obama administration is suing a private company for violating the Americans With Disabilities Act because the company did exactly what Obamacare told it to do!
