Government could ease 31-year-old ban on blood donations from gay men
The Washington Post ^ | 11/29/2014 | Brady Dennis

The federal government is on the brink of lifting restrictions put in place more than three decades ago when regulators, alarmed by the spread of the virus that causes AIDS, barred men who had sex with other men from donating blood.

A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel will begin a two-day meeting on the issue Tuesday, amid growing calls from medical groups, gay rights activists and lawmakers to jettison the ban as outdated and discriminatory.

Thank you. You, or another blood donor like you, saved my life and for that I am forever grateful.

Some time after 9-11, Red Cross protocols stated that anyone who lived in western Europe between 1980-1990 was considered to have been exposed to `Mad Cow disease’ & was therefore rendered unfit to donate blood for ever more. Most were active duty military like myself. This remains in effect to this day.

But faggies will soon be able to pass their blood into the general supply. PC will be the death of us all.

Here’s a thought. Label it as LGBT and offer it as an option for transfusion.
That way other gays and sympathetic Progtards an use it and the rest o f us can avoid it.

Well, hell’s bells and 40 little nations. Hasn’t anyone done a follow-up study to determine if, in fact, Jacob-Kreutzfeld disease affected/infected a significant (or even smaller #s) of western Europeans?

On the other hand, I was exposed to Agent Orange in 1970-71 in Viet Nam and have had cancer, presumably, as a result, so I suppose “mad cow” disease could still be in the genes of folks in Europe.

I share your concern and disgust at the rampant PC in this country.

“Why? We don’t want hepatitis....and all those other diseases.”

Because Ebola hasn’t taken off (yet) like they hoped it would to cull the herd. Must inject more chaos.

It would be the height of silliness for the government to lift restrictions on high risk donors just for the sake of “fairness”. The feelings of high risk donors must not be a consideration.

They WANT more straight people getting it.

That is EXACTLY what they want.

Well, so far, this Obama administration has failed to successfully have Ebola spread throughout the US.

I suppose the fall back plan is to spread HIV and AIDS.

Just another step in “fundamentally transforming America”.

And those of us who were in Europe 34 years ago still can’t donate because of the chance of Mad Cow disease...I wonder if anyone ever did the math on which odds were more favorable...

Crazy enough to make the words in Leviticus sound sane. What do you want to bet that God really wanted Israel to not become what society is now?

Put in mind that HIV is soon to be infecting 50 percent of all open, active, homosexual men in the US, per CDC estimate. It’s therefore more likely to be in some blood donated by said group. Then there are other diseases such as hepatitis viruses that they spread around.

I have rethought this. This is likely, by giving someone a different strain of HIV than they already have, allow the virus to mutate, and become immune to drug treatments. Given how desperate these people are to take people down with them, and a force by government against any quarantine, this is not neccessarily a good idea.

On behalf of all blood donors, you are more than welcome. This is what we don't hear enough of. In my case, all I am told is that my blood is mostly destined for preemies in the neo-natal NICU.

what disturbs me is why gay men, who may be infected with HIV, would want to potentially corrupt the blood supply. The potential truthful answer is very scary...meaning they want to do so intentionally.

Not enough non-perverted, normal people are getting AIDS. That discrepancy cannot be not be tolerated.

Practically it makes little difference. You think gays don’t lie now to donate?
This way they just lie about being celibate for a year.

As a Father of an adult son with hemophilia, this is just another step in the Obama destruction of America!

The number of kids with hemophilia who contracted aids from tainted blood is a disgrace and something that haunts every parent of a child with hemophilia!

Keep the blood supply safe!
