Giuliani: Michael Brown's Death Shouldn't Have Gone to a Grand Jury
The Wire ^ | 11/30 | Allen McDuffee

Posted on 12/01/2014 6:42:51 AM PST by TangledUpInBlue

After days of nation-wide protesting and rioting over the grand jury decision to not indict former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani said on Sunday that prosecutors shouldn't have tried to indict him in front of a grand jury in the first place. Doing so, according to Giuliani, was political theater.

"I don't see how this case normally would even have been brought to a grand jury," said Giuliani, a former prosecutor, on Fox News Sunday. "This is the kind of case—had it not had the racial overtones and the national publicity—where a prosecutor would have come to the conclusion that there is not enough evidence to present to the grand jury."

"Attorney General Holder’s gonna have to take a case in which a jury couldn't find probable cause to indict, and he's gonna have to try to find probable cause in front of a federal grand jury,” Giuliani said. "It's an impossible case to present to a grand jury.”

Giuliani also doubled down on controversial comments he made last Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press, in which he said so-called black-on-black crime was "the reason for the heavy police presence in the black community" and suggesting that "the danger to a black child ... is another black." In a heated exchange with Michael Eric Dyson, a noted Georgetown University professor and civil rights activist, Giuliani said, "the white police officers won't be there if you weren't killing each other."

God Bless Rudy. This almost seems like he's trying to set Holder up for failure - or at least to make him look like a witch hunt if he somehow gets a Federal jury to indict Wilson.

IIRC, Guiliani was a prosecutor and he nailed this.

He also said he was against body cams at one time but says this would have been settled.

Of course they still would have rioted.

I know many here don’t like Rudy, but I won’t mind seeing him as Attorney General

There is no officer abuse by all cops, there is accountability abuse for never pointing to their own faults and failures in their families and in the community.

Sending it to the GJ was basically a gesture to show that the investigators did all that could be done, even though the conclusion was not in doubt, hoping to avoid charges of sweeping the incident under the rug...
Trying to reason with the unreasonable is really a waste of time..

I like him too. IIRC, the rub around here is the opposition to his pro choice stance.

To me, this is the easiest quality in a candidate for me to compromise on. The bottom line is, it’s still MY CHOICE. You can always choose life. Simply having legal abortion doesn’t mean I will suddenly compromise my own morals.

Rudy did wonders for NYC after that slug Dinkins left. In fact, under DiBlasio, a lot of that Dinkins era crap is returning and lots of people are longing for Rudy again.

The perfect “miss me yet” candidate if ever there was one.

Rudy is off base in some other areas, but he knows his stuff in this area cold.

Liberals progressives and others losers love political theater it’s the only way they can get the 15 minutes and call it a cause.
Small confused minds on the march.

It's too early in the morning for me to pick a fight, but I do not find it easy to compromise on murder. It's always the murderer's choice, but what about the victim?

Even if this case had gone to trial, Officer Wilson would have be acquitted resulting in the same riots, calls for federal investigations etc. I agree with Rudy that this case in ordinary circumstances would not have gone to a Grand Jury, but the local DA thought he could mollify the mob by handing it off to a grand jury complete with African American members and by releasing all the evidence. As for police carrying body cams, I think it is a good idea, but if in this case Officer Wilson’s body cam had provided shaky images of the incident I doubt the mob would have been satisfied. There would be calls that the video was faked or altered and the same race baiters and rent a mob groups would be marching and looting. This case has nothing to do with the truth about what actually happened, but about the racial template...all cops are racist and innocent Black kids are being shot purely out of racism

There is such a fog in the world that when someone speaks common sense it almost seems like a V-8 moment.

If it had gone to a jury trial and Wilson acquitted, there still would have rioting. Nothing short of Wilson being railroaded uh convicted and hanged in front of a black crowd would have satisfied the mob.

Agreed on the no fighting. Too many hot button issues on FR degenerate into name calling. I get what you’re saying. I do.

My only point is that every candidate is flawed. Every one has some issue. As long as abortion is “the law of the land”, if a candidate chooses to uphold and/or support the law, then I’m ok with that until the law is changed.

This doesn’t change MY view. MY preference or MY ability to lobby or encourage pro-life. That’s really all I meant.

Nor I. He may be a RINO, but he has a keen legal mind.

Doing so, according to Giuliani, was political theater.

That's the fact, Jack!

Sadly, you’re 100% true. Although, I saw a great video making the rounds on Facebook over the weekend with a young black man ripping the black community - and not just the Ferguson community.

“Responsa-damn-bility” I think it was called....it should be required reading.

I didn't think he'd a be a good standard bearer for the GOP, but AG or head of DHS would have worked just fine for me.

I like Giuliani. You have to specify for what office you want him for. AG? He would be very good.

President? Not so much.
