Ashton Carter announced on Twitter that President Obama called to tell him he'd be nominated to be the next defense secretary.

"President Obama phones me announcing his decision to appoint me as Defense Secretary. I'm honoured and happy," Carter tweets.

CNN confirms:

Ashton Carter, the former second-in-command at the Pentagon appears to be the top choice to replace outgoing Secretary Chuck Hagel.

Barring any last minute complications, Ash Carter will be President Barack Obama's choice as the new Secretary of Defense, several U.S. administration officials told CNN.

Payback for undermining Hagel or the only guy who would answer the call to duty from Obeyme?

Described by some as a “wonky” yes man...

Helped to develop the concept of “Defensive Diplomacy” under Perry and Clinton, that justified butchering the military.

The idea being that defensive diplomacy is to “develop mutually beneficial relationships with friendly countries and armed forces to contribute to a stable international and regional environment.”

In other words, touchy-feely liberal BS...

Carter is actually an excellent choice. He was Deputy SECDEF, and has an outstanding reputation among uniformed military, DoD civilians, and by staffers on the Hill of both parties.

I thought it was traditional for Presidents to announce their nominees, not for the nominees to issue their own press releases via Twitter.

By the nominee putting out his own PR, Obama doesn't get blamed for the appointment ("I didn't know, folks. I only read about the new SecDef on twitter today...."). Always one step ahead of us! (sarc)

Obama expected to nominate former Pentagon official Ashton Carter as defense secretary – and a FAKE Twitter account breaks the news

Italian journalist-hoaxer claimed to be Ashton Carter and tweeted about a nonexistent phone call from President Barack Obama

Tommasso Debenedetti has a history of fooling media into publishing fake interviews with famous authors, and has fake-tweeted in the names of world leaders for years

Obama will likely name Carter as his next defense secretary, replacing the embattled Chuck Hagel

The White House refused to confirm the news, however, saying it can’t comment on ‘personnel rumors’

Carter has never served in the active military but emerged as a front-runner after two of the most logical picks said they didn’t want the job

after two of the most logical picks said they didn’t want the job..... Couldn’t answer directly to O’beyme...

If you think about it, the people the scumprez has had for AG and Sec of Defense have all been worthless.

Holder has been lawless and Hagel and Hillary have been real no-shows.

So, as far as I am concerned the only reason Valerie has picked the people she has is only to be able to fire them when her own plans go awry.
