Republicans ready to vote (Leaders think they can keep the government open.)
Politico ^ | 2 Dec 2014 | Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan

Posted on 12/02/2014 8:12:06 AM PST by 11th_VA

... The plan was inspired by two conservative lawmakers: Florida Rep. Ted Yoho and Georgia Rep. Tom Price. The government funding portion would keep most of the government open until September 2015 but would only supply monies to the Department of Homeland Security until March. Government funding runs out Dec. 11.

House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), who writes spending bills, approved of the plan.

“I think that’s a good option,” Rogers told Politico Tuesday morning. “It passes the omnibus, which we need to get Republican spin on spending plus it avoids a shutdown. And on the Homeland Security, when we do a CR, it preserves that fight until we have more troops in the Senate.”

This is a terrible plan, as it wastes an entire year of the GOP’s two-year window.

No, it wastes the entire two years. And that’s the Boehner-McConnell surrender monkey plan. Next fall will be the eve of 2016 POTUS election year. There will be tremendous pressure on conservatives to punt again. “We have to get the WH, bla bla bla” Nothing will get done then either if we start off the new Congress this way.

The modern day beltway GOP simply has no desire to be an engaged opposition party to the obama agenda. They are either whipped or willingly co-opted by the rampaging Dems. Take your pick.

The shutdown of Homeland Security (post March deadline) will hardly be noticed, and focus the issue of illegals.

And what happens to air travel when the security screeners are sent home?

Poll: Americans reject Obama’s immigration order, want illegals out of schools, jobs

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3232941/posts

I think the fear among the elite is that We the People WANT a grubermint shutdown. The voters could have let the RATS keep their jobs if they wanted RAT solutions to anything.

Anybody see any public polling on a shutdown?

The only drawback is that the first thing King Nero would see done is that SSI Checks and Welfare would not be deposited.

Causing the Hordes (sp) of Social Parasites (100+ million strong)to amass (sp) on Congresscritter’s door steps. They’d buckle within 48 hours.

Observe the LAST shutdown in Oct. 2013. Obola turned off the EBT cards in 14 states, and the riots started. Five days later, the shutdown ended.

Calling out the Lyin’ King was the only distinguished thing Wilson has ever done, IMHO.

The Fed cards were shut down on the 11th, and the FDA put out letters to the states to do the same. Some states complied, others did not.

Freeper Travis Mcgee broke the story.

How about a plan that reduces or keeps current spending across the board and spends nothing on HHS and DHS

The way David Brat beat Eric Cantor is Cantor took the TEA threat seriously and spent millions of dollars attacking Brat by name, who nobody’d heard of until then, and you see what happened next.

Denying Cruz name recognition is priority 1 for the MSM. They exclude him from the POTUS polls. Then Charlie Cook came out the other day saying either a TEA Senator or a mid-western Governor would be the GOP nominee. Being a lefty, that was a *warning* to the RATS from Cook.

That’s why they dread another shutdown, the grubered Americans who ditched their RATS Nov. 4 will be able to put the shutdown together with a name and a face.

If they fund any portion of the illegal Democrat/Obama legalization of illegals after December 11, 2014, it will come back to bite them in any court case. The open-borders judges will point to the funding of the Executive Actions as proof that Congress agreed with the Actions.

They should fund everything for just a month or two, with the exception of these Executive Actions.

Do nothing. Let the CR expire on the 12th. Everyone in government is paid through the end of the year anyway so it doesn’t make a difference.

When the new congress is seated, start fresh.

OK. Got it.

I do notice that FNC attempts to pretend Cruz pretty much doesn't exist - presumably one of their favs, i.e. Christie; Bush and now Mitt has been mentioned lots and lots.

They did that to Michelle Bachmann and with the Mittster's millions took her out of the running long before anything got started.

after the veto, the submissive right wing of the socialist oligarchy will crawl back into submission and anxiously avoid eye contact with constituents while they await another beating from the dominant democrats, they will bravely hold back tears and cower in republican guilt and fear of the MSM

"media pundits pointed to polls showing the public blaming the GOP "

The media CREATED! the blame for the republicans. All reporting on the government shutdown on every media outlet I saw or read was from the perspective of it was the republicans fault.

"Keep this in mind: The Dems really really don’t want the government shut down for months on end."

Hogwash! The dems are all too willing to play hardball. Any shutdown will always be blamed on the obstructionist republicans.
