Republicans ready to vote (Leaders think they can keep the government open.)
Politico ^ | 2 Dec 2014 | Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan

Posted on 12/02/2014 8:12:06 AM PST by 11th_VA

... The plan was inspired by two conservative lawmakers: Florida Rep. Ted Yoho and Georgia Rep. Tom Price. The government funding portion would keep most of the government open until September 2015 but would only supply monies to the Department of Homeland Security until March. Government funding runs out Dec. 11.

House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), who writes spending bills, approved of the plan.

“I think that’s a good option,” Rogers told Politico Tuesday morning. “It passes the omnibus, which we need to get Republican spin on spending plus it avoids a shutdown. And on the Homeland Security, when we do a CR, it preserves that fight until we have more troops in the Senate.”

Well, there’s that, and did I hear spending cuts? We just hit 18 trillion in feral debt. Without an effort to hold the line, at least, on spending the end of the tunnel is looking darker all the time. Wasting this opportunity in congress is nothing short of group treason——I’m already saving money to help primary out the big Rino spenders in two years-———————————Semper Fi

The challenge will be to just go home when obama veto's the CR. If they do that and let the next Congress take it from there they have a chance to get public support and business support.

If they start working on other bills during the shutdown, border security, visa control, obamacare repeal and replace, tax extenders, eventually the public will see it's obama that's the problem.

Contrary to media reports the last shut down was not a total defeat. It illustrated for the public who is opposed to obamacare.

It's not a good plan.

It's a BS surrender by the Congress to a Lawless President.

ANY funding approved for this lawless action is dereliction of duty and makes Congress co-conspirators.

And anyone on this forum who supports it is an enemy of the state and no friend of mine.

Then, let's talk about FULL FUNDING for Obamacare, when EVERY GOP office-holder swore to do everything in their power to destroy.

This is just another “bait and switch” in order to get the American People's focus off of illegal immigration “amnesty” and this out of control POTUS.

The GOPe fully supports what Obama has done by Executive Order, but, must portray themselves as [outraged] by this overreach!

Giving the losers (communist) everything they want or in other words 99% of a budget to fund their socialist operations and withholding only 1% of the budget to stop 10 million illegals from already attending our local schools, or from going to the emergency room for health-care, and/or acquiring EBT cards is laughable and an out right joke!

Once the American People are looking the other way BAM, illegal immigrants get funded under the guise of another budget bill secretly passed under, let's say, a Military Funding Bill!

Once again, the American people get played, then laughed at behind closed doors and told they are “stupid” in videos that will surface several months later!

If Boner and the boys were not playing the American people, then, why not fund the government under a CR until February 01, 2015 and let the newly elected congress deal with pushing back against this out of control President. Because, Boner wants to insure the GOPe gets this done BEFORE the new congress can have a say in what happens. Remember, the newly elected congress, the majority of them ran against “Amnesty” for illegals in this country and won in a land slide election!

Having seen some of his quotes, etc. I determined that he is not only Boehner's choice of a "leader" but also NOT anyone that I'd ever declare a conservative.

What area of KY does he represent?

I am getting really sick of the capitulation . I have expressed myself to the elected officials but Im just about done with these bastards . I have never seen such leaderless quivering ganglia. You would think we just lost the election!! Why not shut down the government until Jan 1 ? 30 lowsey days? We could care less. Why are we funding tyrany and lawlessness. Why are we funding obamacare? We are doing NOTHING!!! Boehner said we would fight “Tooth and Nail” — You can’t make up what a lie that was.

“D.O.A. It will not get past reid. The dem’s are going to punish the rep’s for the November beatdown.”

Of course not. Why should the democrats let the republicans kick the can down the road when the republicans will only be stronger later?

Sure, go ahead and try it. Get some mileage out of it. But understand that ultimately the republicans will have to pass a full bill or be blamed for a shutdown.

I know that many here on freerepublic would look forward to a shutdown but it is a losing effort for the GOP. A government shutdown would break the promise that the republicans made during the last election to keep the government open.

Shut the government down or fund an out of control government? I believe the American people said shut this out of control government down!

Really, the GOPe is scared they will get blamed for shutting down the government? Who cares if the Republicans get blamed, they got blamed for the last shut down and they just won in a land slide election!

Sometimes our representatives need to grow a spine and lead our Country, not sit around sucking the thumbs hoping no one blames them for anything!!!!!!!!!!!

“Shut the government down or fund an out of control government? I believe the American people said shut this out of control government down!”

Name one republican who campaigned on shutting the government down. Now name every republican who campaigned on keeping the government open.

“Really, the GOPe is scared they will get blamed for shutting down the government? Who cares if the Republicans get blamed, they got blamed for the last shut down and they just won in a land slide election!”

The voters care. They won’t a party in power that can get things done, improve the economy, and jump start jobs growth. Instead, you want the GOP to forget all that and shut down the government. Exactly how is that a winning strategy?
