In the new movie, Exodus, director Ridley Scott decided to directly contravene possibly the most basic tenet of Judaism: that God is One and cannot be anthropomorphized. In the famous scene in which Moses stands near the burning bush and hears God talking to him, Scott decided to take liberties with the Biblical text and have an eleven-year-old boy, called Malak, stand near the bush and articulate the voice of God.
Scotts excuse for violating the sacred text? As he said to The Hollywood Reporter: "Sacred texts give no specific depiction of God, so for centuries artists and filmmakers have had to choose their own visual depiction. Malak exudes innocence and purity, and those two qualities are extremely powerful."

Very disappointed....
Why didn’t they just come out with the truth about this garbage from the beginning? There is absolutely no way I’ll ever be watching this burning bundle of blasphemy. Now I can see where Christian Bale’s ridiculous take on Moses came from, they have chosen a Bible interpretation straight from the abyss itself.
Hollywood sure has been making a lot of bad “Bible” movies lately
WHOA Clint Howard going be God in the new movie Moses
I am so there LOL!
You haven’t hear lately Aaron “Jesse” Paul from Breaking bad in to
He play Moses brother Jacob
hmmm.. I was leaning towards seeing this..
come to think of it... with the way that my friends and sister treat their kids, it’s no surprise they cast a child as God.
people I know worship the very bowel movements of their kids... they turn their entire house over them, (mainly the living room - it becomes a giant play pen ! )... all choices in regards to what to do on any given day are run by the kids for their approval... multiple choice is often given to these brats and the brats get to make the decision..
yep... it figures... worshiping children is just the next step in our country’s cultural de-evolution/descent.
still think I might see the move... big fan of this director, even though I hated “kingdom of heaven”.
“No such description is given in the narrative of Moses and the burning bush. A reasonable reader would conclude that there was no apparition in human form at this event, only the fire that signaled Gods presence.’
My thought exactly.
I imagine that the Hollywood pedophile types like Scott’s rendition.
The funny thing is that Clint Howard still looks just as freaky, to this day!
I can understanding filling in details in Bible narratives, if you’re going to make a movie. All the “classic” movies did. However, issues like this are not beyond the grasp of the general reader. Angels appeared in the form of men to Abraham and Jacob. Since the text does not describe such an apparition to Moses, it’s wrong to invent it.
The Bible also says, in Exodus 4:24, that “the LORD met him [Moses],” but again, there is no mention of “men” or “men of God” such as indicates an angel’s appearance in the old the Old Testamant.
From his seat Gene that is the only option...
I thought that God revealed Himself in this instance as a burning bush?
[Hollywood sure has been making a lot of bad Bible movies lately]
With the major religious broadcasters going GA-GA and pastors going YAH-YAH over the Roma Downey movies, the camel’s nose is under the tent.
They will continue to make a lot of bad “Bible” movies.
You are paraphrasing the first and second commandments here, not just the first. In the first commandment Jehovah says "I am YOUR God". He does not say He is the only god. His second commandment to them is to have no other gods (plural) before Him. The 10 commandments actually recognizes the existence of other gods. The Hebrews just can't worship them. Exodus also mentions gods of the Egyptians. They are claimed to be less powerful, but it never says they don't exist.
Oh, I have been taken to task on this in a private letter. Back to Dennis Prager’s class on the ten commandments.
Phooie!
It’s a movie...I don’t get my faith from movies...I get it from God. I get my entertainment from movies (although rarer and rarer these days.) Has anyone seen the movie, THE JUDGE? What a preposterous piece of crap. The acting was good..but that was about it. Predictable and just downright silly at times.
I’m also a fan of Ridley Scott, yet can’t bring myself to see some of his like “Hannibal”. Good work, but occasionally revolting content. Not sure about this one, not so much about the content as it blurring the line with Scripture in my head.
I like some of Ridley Scott's movies a lot. The Duellists is in my top 5 favorites list. As far as Moses movies go, DeMille was pretty fanciful with his film as well. Right at the beginning, DeMille has the Pharaoh ordering the Hebrew slave children to be killed because a "deliverer" has been prophesied among them; when the book of Exodus says the Hebrew slaves were killed because the Hebrews had grown too numerous, and the Pharaoh ordered them killed to thin them out by a generation.
My problem with the new Exodus movie from what I've seen in the trailers is the minimalist acting by Christian Bale as Moses.
There is only ONE God and to believe otherwise is to put your soul in mortal danger.
Is your religious belief based on what is written in the Hebrew bible?
