A New York City grand jury has declined to indict an NYPD officer in the chokehold case of Eric Garner, the unarmed man who died while being arrested on Staten Island earlier this year.

In opting not to indict, the panel determined there was not probable cause that a crime was committed by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was seen on a widely watched amateur video showing him wrapping his arm around Garner's neck as Garner yelled, "I can't breathe!" during the summer altercation.

The sentence for those crimes was execution by cop without due process?

I’m flabbergasted that New York City places undercover police on the beat to identify unregulated street transactions of tobacco products and to arrest unlicensed tobacco merchants up to and including the use of deadly force at police discretion.

I just can’t get my head around it, yet New Yorkers seem accustomed to “Stop And Frisk” police policies without probable cause. Why should any of them be surprised when a policeman chokes an illicit cigarette merchant to death?

They wanted more big government, they got more big government. This is what more government looks like: Strangling a man to death over what’s basically worthy of a public citation. Maybe they’ll kill a man selling 17-ounce soda cups next.

This is also why those of us in the Western US states don’t want any mother-f’ing New York City billionaires messing around with our state laws.

The media is really cranking this one up since around 5 pm
EST. They have basically been advocating for protests. TV
personalities are all over Twitter saying the cops are guilty. I will not feel sorry for the NY’ers when they can’t get around the city.

They were responding to a fight which had just occurred, in which Garner had been involved.

The idiotic protestors are using this case as a racial motive to premeditated murder. The cop probably was not charged because the officer did not intent or plan this outcome.
I am sure the family will win a big lawsuit against the city. The mayor will probably fast track that and carry the loot over himself.

If the police officer gets hurt or killed, I will blame the

media. They are after revenge.

Agreed, if you want a case where the public should be outraged, this one is it.. All on tape and cops completely in the wrong.... Amazing the complete ignorance being espoused by some folks here.

Yes, that was NOT a seatbelt hold, at least not the entire time. A seatbelt hold goes under the armpit. The cop was choking Garner with his left arm around the neck and was cranking it down with his right. I supported Zimmerman and Wilson, but Garner and Tamir Rice deserve justice

Multiple references here to a fight, in which Garner’s friend alleges he had been involved in breaking up:

Why is the choke hold prohibited?

Because people can die from it.

In the video, the policeman choking him out keeps yelling ‘put your arm behind your back!’ as if that 375 pound obese diabetic man could do such a thing in that cradle wrestling takedown position he’s being held in. He was killing him, whether he meant to or not.

Another point, if some tattooed hipster dressed like that flashed a badge and declared himself to be cop in Nevada, he’d probably get fast-drawed on by some citizen thinking they were about to be robbed by a carjacking crook with a fake badge.

“Did the choke hold kill him? Was the cause of death strangulation?

Just asking”

According to the medical examiner, yes.
