Charles Krauthammer said Wednesday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that a grand jury's decision not to indict a New York City police officer in the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who died in July after the officer placed him in a chokehold, is "totally incomprehensible."
"It looks like they at least might have indicted him on something like involuntary manslaughter at the very least," Krauthammer, a syndicated columnist and Fox News contributor, said. "The guy was unarmed, and the crime was petty as they come. He was selling loose cigarettes, which in and of itself is almost absurd that somebody has to die over that."

When force is involved bad things can happen. The takedown may have been bad technique but the police didn’t intend to kill the guy.
You can greatly reduce the odds of this sort of thing happening to you by not getting yourself cited for selling cigarettes eight times in a row and then resisting arrest when they finally do arrest you.
If you watch the video, the deceased is very agitated. He's huffing and puffing and hopping around a lot. More excise than the guy has seen in decades no doubt. He might have dropped dead after signing the ticket if they gave him one.
There seems to be disagreement here as to whether actual "deadly force" was used. I wonder, if everything had happened exactly the same way, except the person resisting arrest had no medical issues, then would anyone have died?
It's terrible that this man died, and over a petty although oft-repeated offense. But the question is, did the police kill him by using unreasonably aggressive and deadly force, or did his own poor health and unwisely confrontational behavior result in internal trauma and unexpected death?
They should have put him in a cage for his 2nd offense of selling loose cigs....Beside, he wasn’t paying his fair share of taxes I bet!!!
NY should up the regulations on selling loose cigs to $5,000 and 1 year probation per every illegal cigarette sold.
His own weight may have been what cut off his airways. Still, I don’t see why they didn’t use a taser.
I think they should do the same for soft drinks and any other items that contain sugar! How about a complete ban on all things that the government decides that is bad for us! Works for me. How about that $5000 dollar fine for selling any of these items. Now that is Government in action!!
Those are the sorts of background details that the grand jury looked at and I guess they found the arrest to be justified. Actually I’m not sure that even matters. Whether the arrest is justified or not, you are liable to get a forceful response if you resist.

Yes, I sure would like to read the information that they had so a more intelligent decision could be made instead of trying to decipher the news (which we know is almost always wrong)!
That’s why I’m always careful when dealing with the police.
You never know what kind of cop you are dealing with.
That said, I really don’t like this idea that the cop gets away with excessive force as long as the suspect was disrespectful or uncooperative.
Some situations absolutely call for this kind of force.
I don’t care how many tickets this guy got. There’s no reason to create a deadly situation over it and give the race pimps another reason to riot and loot.
There just needs to be better judgement exercised in the field by these guys.
They hurt themselves and the community in the long run with this kind of crap.
It would be better to let the small stuff slide.
There are so many nanny state regulations that people can’t get from point A to point B without violating some law.
Just read your state Transportation Code (or equivalent) and you’ll be amazed.
The legal net is so wide that they can basically pick the person and then decide what law they are breaking.

It's not like he was selling "illegal" cigarettes from his home. He was out in front of retail establishments soliciting cigarette sales. The police were responding to complaints.
Thinking means differentiation, distinction, and discrimination.
Michael Brown assaulted and was returning to kill a cop. He got shot dead properly. GOOD SHOOT.
The poor guy in new York was selling loose cigarettes and was threatening nobody, and was killed for it for No Reason.

I saw the video a few times on TV today and I must agree that its looks terrible for the NYC cops, the choke hold ,the gang up and the deceased crying over and over ‘I cant breath’
On the video it looks like they just murdered him.

There were enough cops there that it was completely unnecessary to drop the guy at all. Clearly poor judgment and excessive force.
The problem here is we do not know what evidence was allowed in in this grand jury. This prosecutor is a very different animal than the one in Ferguson.
Both brown and garner would be alive if police showed civility too. Why do cops always get confrontational rather than conversational?
