There are beautiful, expensive homes and parks in the Oakland Hills…a wonderful place to hike -—25 years ago.
This vic was obviously surrounded by the white light of liberalism, which offered protection, or so he thought.

25 years ago I lived and worked on the Emeryville Peninsula, could walk all over the place, down to the Berkeley Marina, plus had friends in those hills too….our worst complaint was that the last little Chinese grandma given a drivers license created gridlock on the bridge so we couldn’t run into SF for lunch any more. You should have such a good problem today.

Guns are not allowed in Oakland. In addition, the police sketches are dead giveaways that the perpetrators were not Negroes, but members of a violent Norwegian Biker Gang. These Viking bastards meet late at night in Lutheran Church basements to don "ethnic" costumes and make themselves up with stolen Mary Kay products to fool the local Barney Fifes into blaming crimes on completely innocent ethnic groups.
Besides which, IIRC, the Southern Poverty Law Center doesn't even have an office in Oakland. Although David may have been tracking a racist cougar who attacked an illegal alien child at at a fund-raising picnic.
David Ruenzel's brother is a good friend of mine in our church choir and men's Bible study. His brother, father, wife and children are completely devastated.
David Ruenzel was raised in a conservative Wisconsin family, home and church. He became a liberal at college and converted to a C&E Catholic to accommodate his wife.
Whatever his political leanings, no one deserves to be shot & killed for a few dollars in their wallet.

I chance to visit...Oakland....in a nieghborhood very near San Pablo Avenue...a few months ago. what a difference forty years have made.
Deserve it or not, he was a piece of crap. Being dead does not exempt him. Hitler, for example, was a POS before and after death.
Parts of Oakland are really nice. The Oakland Hills are gorgeous. Some neighborhoods quite wealthy and safe. It’s not all ghetto.

You are exactly correct, he did not deserve to be shot. Not for money or for any other reason. Condolences to the family. I do wonder why there were no protest marches, no outcry. THAT seems unfair and unhelpful.
Crime in Oakland is probably never going to get better…If Ruenzel was trying to help the situation, he had good intentions.

Your point is well taken. We conservatives oppose liberals & leftists, often vehemently, but never should we wish physical harm on them or express Schadenfreude like this.
If Hillary were diagnosed with cancer, I would say a prayer for her. But I hope she’s never our President.
We can however note the irony of someone who worked for SPLC which is a demonstrably evil organization, meeting a horrible fate at the hands of his supposed beneficiaries.
Some liberals, the goodhearted among them, are dangerously naive about the nature of good and evil, and that makes his death even more tragic.
