I don’t understand how screwing up a bunch of people’s commute is supposed to win them over.

Lessons in Protesting (*excellent* opinon piece about lessons from Ferguson and more)

So, what are those lessons?

Don’t burn your audience. “Burn it down! Burn it all down!” This battle cry works fine when aimed away from the people you hope to win.

But when Ferguson protesters started burning businesses—or even just stopping traffic and interrupting an NFL game—they crossed a line. Those businesses, the highways, and the game weren’t just used by twelve hated jurors. Everyone was affected. Either literally or figuratively, the Ferguson protesters “burned” those they hoped to persuade.

Likewise, when Wisconsin teachers closed classes to march, they stopped affecting Scott Walker and started affecting families. This torched education itself. So, when they stormed the voting booths screaming, “Who’s with me?!” they came up short.

Be the good guys. I’ll never forget those enraged Wisconsin teachers. Same with Ferguson. For a protest to gain support, people must see it as building, not destroying, for many won’t follow petty wrath. People want to follow good guys.

As I expected, though, the people who most need this advice are the same people who are least likely to listen to it.

All this protesting in white areas is wierd. Why aren’t they protesting in Oakland? That’s where the black people live. Is it because black people understand this is BS better than white liberals do?

All of this protesting in Berkeley is for fun. Everybody loves a good protest with a little light rioting. But when the Shit Status gets upgraded to "REAL", it is time to go home and catch up on last season of Game of Thrones.

Protest in Oakland would be much too real. That involves real rioting, with real police, real teargas, and real guns (on both sides). That does not sound like any fun at all.

Imagine how much different it would be if 1000 conservatives were doing the exact same thing. Imagine the libtard response. they’d be screaming it’s the beginning of civil war II.

Although I find it hard to imagine 1000 conservatives disrupting traffic and breaking windows, such language will appear anyway. For example:

Biden: I didn't cast Tea Partiers as "terrorists" (Biden did call Tea Party Members "terrorists") (August 2011)

Rasmussen: 29% agree with “Tea Party terrorists” depiction (America has too many idiots) (August 2011)

Harkin: Tea Party 'every bit' as dangerous to nation as the Civil War (September 2013)

Virginia Democrat pines for Civil War, calls Tea Party 'terrorists,' 'traitors' (May 2014)

Spanish-Language Ad Calls Tea Party "Radical Terrorists" (November 2014)

I don’t pretend to understand the mind of a rioter, but my guess is that the rioters’ interest is more in general disruption and vandalism ....

That is exactly the case. They just want to protest something. Like those in Austin, TX, they’ve never had any real life experiences and this sort of thing gives them a sense of accomplishment. They’re not “real worlders.”

Obama and his commie demos want these type things to escalate. The dems were quietly behind the Occupy silliness before the 2012 elections. They failed to mention that most the Wall Street money in 2008 and 2012 went to Obama. The SEIU and other union are also part of the commie plot of general disruption that leads to change.

I would argue that you both are making the reason overly complex.

The reason for hitting the streets is simple in the extreme.

They want to make a difference..... pure and simple

I don’t believe they know what they want. They just want change something. Some feel the need to protest without even knowing why. I guess it gives them a sense of self worth.

Most those at Cal-Berkeley are from at least somewhat affluent families. They’ve been in an insulated and safe environment all their lives. They’re not real worlders but yet think they know it all.

Berkeley has a history of radicals. Here’s an example:

Just south of the bridge near Addison Street and Essex Way, a group blocked an Amtrak train

That's impossible.

Making a difference?

They don’t give a crap about making any difference, except maybe to destroy someone’s property or screw up someone’s day or even life.

What they are doing is all about revelling in self-importance and self-congratulation: “Oh look how much we care we are marching and breaking and ruining things in front of the tv cameras! Now let’s go back to the dorm and screw.”

This is what democrats do.
The republicans will win big in 2016 because of this and other illegal acts by the democrats.
